Hmm, i'll put foot in mouth here and say that's _almost_ correct. There are, in fact 3 separate 1.96 releases, in two separate tranches (resistance vs goty) and confusion reigns about the so-called 'beta'. The true beta is _not_ the latest 'n greatest only because it doesn't include all (changes to) pbo's off a cd install. And even that is incorrect because the Resistance only cd didn't use pbo format (sigh)

There are only 3 fixes to game play in the 1.96 series. (the rest seem to be network related). the fixes are critical because they a) lessen the likelihood of a display related crash and b) remove the hard disk partition erase bug. There is no change to single player game play from 1.95 that i can detect. (Russians are just as dumb <grin>)

for other people's info there are 3 (three) 1.96 releases the beta release is beta. Forget it. The 'release candidate' is _identical_ to the true 'official' 1.96 but assumes patch 1.91 or better has been installed. The true, official 1.96 is a 12 meg upgrade from a cd install

All of which is confusing, but, Bis seem to have now sorted it out (april 24th) and supplied various downloads depending on your mix of GOTY / Resistance and patches. Most of us will simply need to dload the 2meg Goty191to196 upgrade.
