Porting PMC Terrains from FS19, FS22 to FS25

Post by Snake Man »

Got asked a question; any plans on porting PMC terrains from Farming Simulator 22 (FS22) to Farming Simulator 25 (FS25), decided to reply here publicly so everyone can know.

Would be great to have all my terrains ported to FS25, this includes both FS19 and FS22 ones.

Currently I got no plans on doing that, which means exactly what it says, I have no plans either way, no plans of NOT doing it nor definitive plans of absolutely 100% getting all of them done.

You could say I'm on a holding pattern waiting for Giants Editor v10 (GE) to be released. Once this happens then I immediately install it and start to study FS25 terrain engine changes, documenting them and sharing with everyone.

It is not certain that we can just simply port over terrains without issues, who knows if giants changed something that causes problems. In FS19 to FS22 engine the change was for positive side, we got the CPU multi core features which allow us to load huge GDM and GRLE images without causing in-game stutter, but now on FS22 to FS25 its not certain what they did with ground deformation for example, that Engine Interview Ground Deformation Farming Simulator 25 talks about large images being used, so no idea how this translates to huge terrains, it might be nothing or it might be really bad, I simply don't know. Who knows maybe terrain devs could somehow disable terrain deformation, assuming it would cause performance issues like for example dajnet reported yesterday, it would be one solution (its a gimmick tire track feature anyways). Or there could be some unknown problem as of now since none of us have tested large terrains yet.

Once GE v10 has been released and I have gotten to try it for few hours, then I know more of what works and what doesn't. If there is no problems running larger terrains than 10 kilometers x 10 kilometers we should be good.

I will post to PMC Tactical Forum as soon as I know more after GE v10 release.

Hello and welcome to PMC Tactical Forum :)

I would very much like to port all my FS19 and FS22 terrains to FS25. There are bunch of guys working hard to make progress on learning how giants engine v10 and giants editor v10.0.2 (GE) work right now, so far we have some concerning insights but it remains to be seen how everything turns out.

Giants is soon releasing FS25 v1.3 update, hopefully we also get a new GE release soon after that. It is my hope that many or at least some of our current terrain editing problems will get fixed on these updates.

Stay tuned, I will post updates once I have information to share.
