Originally known as the Armed / Armored Chinook - A/ACH-47A, the designation was changed to the ACH-47A when the Army standardized its model designations, as per Army Regulation 70-50. The leading "A" (special mission symbol) became Attack, the "C" (mission symbol) stands for Cargo, the "H-47" (Basic mission and type symbol) stands for Helicopter -47, the "A" (series symbol) stands for the first model design. ACH-47A - Attack Cargo Helicopter -47 A model.
Four armed/armored ACH-47A Chinooks were specially built for the U.S. Army by Boeing Vertol in late 1965. Three of the four aircraft were originally fielded in the Republic of Vietnam (RVN) for a six month temporary duty (TDY) test period assigned to the newly formed 53rd Aviation Detachment.
The ACH-47A Chinook Guns A Go-Go, with a crew of eight, was armed with up to five M2 .50 caliber or M60D 7.62 mm machine guns (four XM32 window and one XM33 ramp mounted), and two fixed-mounted XM34 M24A1 20 mm cannon and two M18/M18A1 pod-mounted 7.62 mm miniguns, or two XM159B / XM159C 19-tube 2.75 inch rocket launchers, and a chin-mounted 40 mm automatic grenade launcher on the M5 armament subsystem.
The M60D was a 7.62 mm link belt fed, gas operated, air cooled automatic weapon. When fielded with the ACH-47A helicopter, the door or window mounted version was known as the XM32 System (which later became the M24). The ramp mounted version was known as the XM33 System (later to become the M41).
I'm planning on trying to upgrade our CH-47 Chinook with these nice guns. I already did some work with the model, however there are some issues which I need to work out so I cant promise anything.
If anyone has any ideas, information, suggestions, links, reference images or what ever related to the chinook gunship, please post here.

New screenshots of ingame.
Armaments:
5 x 50cal machine guns
2.75" FFAR rockets wingtip mount
2 x 20mm machine gun static wingtip mount
Todo: 40mm grenade launcher to the nose
Five gunners man the 50cals inside, two each side and one in the aft, then pilot controls the static 20mm and 2.75" rockets on the wingtips. I mean come on, thats pretty serious firepower

I've just SVN committed the texture merged ACH47 where I tried some lame color balance changing to make the textures black. You could say that I failed miserably, now it looks like blue blackish color.
I have uploaded the two main textures used, if someone could please retexture it to black color it would change its appearance ingame dramatically to the bad ass look its supposed to be. If someone retextures them, they will get into VTE credits naturally. Please rar up the two tga textures and put for me to download somewhere or email them to me (email on my profile).
I'll take a look. By the way, your source photos ain't showing up for me.
Actually, could you send me the files in .bmp or high quality .jpeg. I have no way of converting the .tga unless I print screen the various sections and then paste them back together.

Yes. Now you just have to edit the texture and then later see it ingame. I have no clue if texture artists can work like this, but it'll have to do for now.

I've done the engine nacelle but could really do with seeing what it's like in game just to check whether it's the right colour, if the texture detail shows up properly, if panel lines are aligned etc.
I'm going on holiday later today so I can wait.
Did you say above you wanted it black? All the Guns a Go-go pics I've seen are olive drab.

Here you go, please dont post these to Armaholic.com
It has the look of your average texture merged model, very low res. Its clear that we need some texture artist / uv mapper to go through all the models before they are finished. I'm so scared that this job depends on me, me who has no texturing or uv mapping skills. I believe I can learn how to UV map technically, but texturing... I think its more an artform where you need artistic eye than just something you can learn. Se were really screwed.
