Request help for airbase list...

Post by Red Dog »

I would need some information about airbases in Uzbekisan, Khazakstan, Turkmenistan, Khyrgystan and Tajikistan supported by the theater.

The Airbase list for the afghan theater is complete for afghanistan, pakistan, India, China and Iran.

Any list of real airbases is welcome

Cheers

While this site isn't the best, it does kinda name what groups are in what airbases.

Uzbekistan: http://mylima.com/airforce/u2.htm#UZBEKISTAN

Turkmenistan: http://mylima.com/airforce/t2.htm#TURKSTAN

I'll look around for more on these bases as well as something on the other countries. Keep in mind, that if anyone finds something on a Russian language site, I can read Russian fairly well (and I usually have a Russian-English dictionary handy). :)

[Edit1] Here's one of Venik's sites (he's fairly active in aero newsgroups) on Operation Enduring Freedom (or Blind Fury, as he likens it) on a couple of these countries.

Tadjikistan: http://www.aeronautics.ru/archive/vif2_ ... tan_af.htm

Uzbekistan: http://www.aeronautics.ru/archive/vif2_ ... tan_af.htm

Turkmenistan: http://www.aeronautics.ru/archive/vif2_ ... tan_af.htm

[Edit2]

Here's the MSNBC site, it looks pretty good, especially if you click on the Interactive: On the Front Lines thingie.

[Edit3] http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ ... m-maps.htm
Along the right side, there are ORBAT listings. One that's particularly helpful, I think, is the one for Coalition. :)

It includes information on Manas, Kyrgyzistan, and Dushanbe, Tajikistan. I haven't been able to find anything on Kazakhstan, yet, which is kinda surprising to me. :?

[Edit4] Do we really need airbases in Kazakhstan? I was just looking at some maps, and I'm not sure there's much of Kazakstan in the theater.

So far all airbases i've found are much farther North, so no supported airbase so far in Kazakstan.

Great links. It pointed out some mistakes in my original list
Thanks

I'll do some quick searches on non-military airports in Kazakhstan. There may be some in the South that would support large aircraft, but that are not airbases.

:)

[Edit1] Image

Judging from this map, there's only 2 "big cities" that might have airports - Shimkent and Taraz. Here's a list of airport codes: http://www.airportcitycodes.com/aaa/Cou ... rports.htm

In this list, I'm pretty sure "Chimkent" is the same as Shimkent. I don't know if this is in theater or not.

[Edit3] No - you're right, there's no Kasack airports in the theater. From the Afghanistan page, here's the lat/long of the theater:
NW: Lat 42.2063 Long 55.5714
NE: Lat 42.2063 Long 80.4286
SW: Lat 23.7937 Long 57.9385
SE: Lat 23.7937 Long 78.0615

From here: http://www.wapf.com/world/KZ.html
Here's the lat/long of Shymkent(UAII): 42.3642/69.4789 - so it's just a bit too far north to be in the theater. From that site, also, there aren't any other airports to the south that are big enough to have the navigational equipment.
