Iran Status
Hey SM,
Is there any release date for a beta version of Iran? I guess I mean an non-developer install version?

Right now the PMC theater development cycle is complete, meaning that we have came back and done pretty decent installer versions out of all the theaters. The early ones still have some bugs, but still they are out there now.
At the moment I'm taking a break from F4 editing because 1) I need it 2) was busy with OFP finishing and now busy with ArmA and with the PMC Editing Wiki 3) we wait for bug reports/feedback.
Sadly to say, besides few posts by others and then awesome testing by ccc (thats how I see it) there is not much feedback.
So when do we start to build next theater and what will that be, I havent decided yet. I can promise you that it will not happen in the next 3 weeks because I'm busy in real life now with only limited computer time each day. Iran theater is among the top-3 candidates though, actually I can't recall the release cycle, I guess logical way would be to start from the oldest release (hmm was that Taiwan or... cant remember). However as you can see from the forum, once the cycle begins again the theaters come out in no time (compared to the 3 year history before our comeback hehe).
If you want to help; play/fly Iran theater. Open a text file for its bugs and write as you find them. Then after couple of days (or in three weeks for that matter) post the findings here. Each and every new bug/issue reported is appreciated and will get or attention then.

Is there any interest still in this theater besides me (and Snake Man)? I mean for adding content like better campaigns, TRI files, DB editing, skins, etc.
I don't mean testing. 98% of folks seem to want to "test" (read this as fly and have fun but don't actually write any bugs down and report back here) the theaters but hardly anyone seems to be willing to do the requisite study/trial by error process necessary to learn TacEdit, F4Browse, Pathmaker, CATE, make new tiles, etc, and get proficient enough with them to actually do anything constructive.
Don't get me wrong here folks. I know REAL testing needs to take place. But everyone testing and no one adding content isn't going to get this theater or any other one to a final production status.
Just wondering about this because my time is starting to free up again and I am still interested in furthering this theater for AF. I don't fly RV or OF so my inputs would only be for AF just to clarify.

my .002c,
the dev work better focus on a fully working campaign that can reach an end.
with my humble expereince, the first step should define the main combat/engagement routes. then use fast-moving units to check the continuity of road network in TE. bridges and rivers seem to be trouble-makers, and i did test tweaking tiles/road network with uncertain results.
once checked, build a test campaign, small scale one, with an easy-built TRI file, see if it works. then move to larger, full scale campaign.
well, in RL the truely massive ground war is historical iran-iraq war, which can use TRI to define win/lose condition. in upcoming months or years, the western or israeli assult probably be surgical air-strike - then it won't need a fully working campaign, TE could do the job.

hard life to think of F4 continually, but dont have time
I am very interested in theater-building. But have two children and unfinished house... Fortunately childs are boys (3 and 1/2), so they will fly with me in the far future, when nobody else will be interested in Falcon4....
I have a lot of plans with PMC 128Euro (+ my 64segment exact crop at first(we can paste it in the future)) and will work on it again as soon as possible.
My question:
"the part of code (groun unit moves + terrain route cost) is hardcoded - units simply moves on stright routes (they only follow direct links which connect objectives)"
This really frustrates me. It says: "using pathmaker util for tile edit is waste of time"..." if u want to make unit colums turn, u have to add some helper objective"
If I want to make some serious work, this must be clear for me.
Is it so bad in all F4 derivates?
I am mostly interested in AF, but love FF/RV and OF too.
Thank you very much and sorry for my English
Luk
P.S. is it possible to join "modteam" for experience sharing?
If yes, how?

I have red some terrible news about F4 engine in last year. Re: hard life to think of F4 continually, but dont have time
Luk, I don't know where you read that at but my own experience tells me otherwise. I've seen, with my own two eyes in sim (AF), columns of troops on the march which make a right hand turn on the terrain where there is NO objective but there is a road on the tile. Plus I've experiemented with changing movement costs in TacEdit and seen differences in movement behavior. CCC has also and I think will affirm that movement costs can be varied.Luk wrote: I have red some terrible news about F4 engine in last year. For example:

Don't be sorry for your English. You got your question/point across and that is what counts. Heck, I can't even speak or write another language you are 1-up on me!Luk wrote:Thank you very much and sorry for my English

There is no modteam anymore other than those who hang out here at PMC and any working on RV/FF5 which is under wraps. The AFMOD Team is no more I can say that for sure. Khronik was working on RV/FF5 last I heard.
If you want to "experience share" then just visit here and post your question or your technique/discovery and we will share. Here is where I post my questions and my discoveries. That's the full intent by Snakeman...to make this place the Falcon modding repository.

a bit off topic - getting ODS campaigns rolling should check the intergrity of road network( or the routes of main offensive-defensive axis) first.87th_striker wrote:Prioritice what should be done, and then let's get goin.
Finish ODS 512, then move to the next theater. Make all theaters available for RV, AF and OF.
So if one said ODS 512 finsihed by 1. November ? Then xxxx ?
i did try to fix some stalled ground unit movement with TacEdit, no success.
