In ArmA we have this nice feature of Librabry which displays some text when weapon/ammo is selected in gear. Also I believe this text is displayed in the Armoury when viewing a unit. VTE library text is located on the VTE_config.pbo in the stringtable.csv file.
I would like to develop VTE more to provide some historical / technical reference, ie not to be just "shooter mod". It would be very nice to educate at least someone out there, as when they are playing they come across the library texts and learn something. For example myself, I've learnt great deal of Vietnam War history during my VTE development, I'd like to pass this on.
So here we go, this is our current library text database. This post is just direct copy paste of the stringtable.csv right now, I'm way too tired to edit it nicely to forum post. This first post will be updated when new information comes in, please help and reply here if you have corrections or just new data for some missing items.
Lets see the list.

STR_VTE_Lib_Mas36,"MAS Modèle 36. The MAS-36 is a short, carbine-style rifle with a two-piece stock and slab-sided receiver. It is chambered for the modern, rimless 7.5x54 French cartridge, a shortened version of the 7.5 x 57 mm MAS mod. 1924 cartridge that had been introduced in 1924 (then modified in 1929), for France's FM-24/29 light machine gun. The MAS-36 carries a spike bayonet, reversed, in a tube below the barrel. To use the bayonet, it is pulled out, turned around, and plugged back into its receptacle. The MAS-36 has a relatively short barrel and is fitted with large aperture (rear) and post (front) sights designed for typical combat ranges. It has a five-round, Mauser-style double-column magazine with a removable floorplate. The rifle is somewhat unusual in that the locking lugs are found at the rear of the bolt rather than the front, resulting a distinctive-looking forward cant of the bolt handle. Typical for French rifles of the period, the MAS-36 has no safety. It was normally carried with a loaded magazine and empty chamber until the soldier was engaged in combat, though the rifle's firing mechanism could be blocked by raising the bolt handle."
STR_VTE_Lib_MP40,"The MP40 (Maschinenpistole 40, literally 'machine pistol 40') was a submachine gun developed in Germany and used extensively by paratroopers and platoon and squad leaders, and other troops during World War II. The MP40 had a relatively low rate of fire and low recoil, which made it more manageable than other contemporary submachine guns. The MP40, and its predecessor the MP38, were sometimes referred to by the Allies as 'burp guns'."
STR_VTE_Lib_PPD40,"PPD-40. The PPD (Pistolet-Pulemet Degtyarova) is a submachine gun originally designed in 1934 by Vasily Degtyaryov. It was a near direct copy of the German Bergmann MP28, and utilized a large ammunition drum, a copy of the Finnish M31 Suomi drum magazine, as well as a more conventional box-type magazine. It first went into military service in 1935 as the PPD-34. In 1938 and 1940, modifications were designated PPD-34/38 and PPD-40 respectively, and introduced minor changes. Nevertheless, the PPD-40 was too complicated and expensive to mass-produce, and although it was used in action in the initial stages of World War II, it was, by the end of 1941, quickly phased out and replaced by the superior and cheaper PPSh-41."
STR_VTE_Lib_K98K,"The Karabiner 98 Kurz (often abbreviated Kar98k or K98k) was a bolt-action rifle adopted as the standard infantry rifle in 1935 by the Wehrmacht, and was one of the final developments in the long line of Mauser military rifles."
