Help with texture set editing in LE

Okay, dumb question: every .lod in the pack I've downloaded uses the same texture list 4000, 4001, 4002, etc. for however many .dds files used. How do you change this? If you try to install more than one .lod in your db, they all try to use the same textures. Simply append/change does not work because that just changes whatever 4000.dds (ad nauseum) is. How do you tell the model to use a diff text number or set. Editing in LE does not appear to work:

Once you edit/accept/udate, reopening LE still shows the original texture list (4000+), it does not seem to change.
"The terrain has a higher Pk than any missile you may currently be evading..."
