Looking for desert skins
A member of the 9th WTAC Griffons, Fafa, is working on a "skin pack" dedicated to desert skins.
He had a huge collection he built since a long time, but with a crash system, damn, you imagine what happenned ...
At the moment the ODS512 we made working with OF doesn't have such skins... so we are interested in his work .
You can find some pics of what he collected in several weeks in that topic : http://www.veaf.org/veaf_forums/index.php?topic=4404.0 .
He's more particularly looking for skins of any material involved in the 91 Gulf War, jordanian F-16 skins, Tornado SAF, iranian F14, koweiti TA4, and skins for Qatar or UAE aircrafts... well anything that could complete such a package.
You can get his collection at its actual stage here : http://fafa.griffons.free.fr/Falcon4/Sk ... kinpack.7z .
By advance, thank you for any help .

Skins for ODS
I have a skin for Jordanian AF F-16 and also a skin for the SAF Tornado.
They will be included in the package for Israeli Theater Operations 2 (ITO2) due out very soon now. . .
Wasn't there a PSD for the F14 around? Should be easy to make a skin for the IIRAF Tomcat.
I wonder if someone has made a M2000 PSD that would speed things up a bit for you too if you are looking to add some modern stuff to a fictional scenario.
I am planning to make a new PSD for the the skyhawk for Falklands128. When I do I will be happy to send you the PSD and you can make whatever you like with that - but that will be a few months form now at the earliest.

Re: Skins for ODS
Would the author(s) of these skins be willing to donate them for community theater work on ODS and other desert based theaters that might be made in the future?ranger822 wrote:I have a skin for Jordanian AF F-16 and also a skin for the SAF Tornado.

That's great news. When we get going on ODS re-release we will need Iranian skins (as well as Iraq, etc., skins) for all involved participants.Closter wrote:I have written to Darkcon and he says that he slightly modified the skins, (flags, in particular) and he has no problems with his modifications being included, even he could be making more (but a bit later, as his RL now makes him busy).

Skins for ODS
I think I extracted the new skins from Rob Vipers OIF (never released publcially). I need to look thru - - I have permission to use them but I don't know if Rob will extend that to others. We could check. Tell me exactly what you are looking for - list please.
I will check thru and put together the skins I have. You can work out the permits as you like. You will need to link up the proper model with the skin - some of them are getting a bit old I think.

No PSD's
no PSD's again!!!! That is a unfortunat. I don't have time to generate a whole new skin from scratch. Seems a lot of folks don't keep their work. When a PSD is done - save it, upload it. The Iranian Tomcat skin has a several things I would like to correct.
1. Correct red stripe
2. Improve stencils
3. Feather the camouflage pattern
4. Rework the nozzle
5. Rework panel lines and weathering
6. Fix alignment antiglare panel
7. Correct the roundels w/o the white border
8. Correct the bare-metal leading edge of vertical tails
9. Add missing a/c serial numbers on nose and vertical tails
10. Add some miscellaneous details

We dont have rule for image sizes (heck, we dont have ANY rules), but do the screenshot sizes must be like 325kb, I mean is it that hard to squeeze in more compression for the image?
I was looking at those screenshots and thinking to myself goddamn my net is acting up again, but then checked the size and ... oh now I see why they load slow.
Like said, we dont have set rule for that, but 325kb for one screenshot is about the same as I use in my local computer to store images with jpg quality 100% - so please, try to use some more compression

F-14 Skin Research
Did a quick search thru available resources - - I located a few color plates and updated it a little by adding the inner faces of the vertical tails and addded some useful info about the wing markings.
Colors by Federal Standard 595b are also published in numerous places. There is some discrepancy between sources. Don Color resource indicates for Asia Minor Scheme:
FS 30140 Yellow Sand
FS 30400 Brown
FS 34079 Forest Green
FS 36622 Light Grey
However, after mixing these colors in Photoshop pallete, the Yellow sand looks just a tiny bit too yellow, brown is just a little too light, and the Forest Green looks to light when compared to colors from the photos. If the Yellow Sand is color shifted to the red by about 10% and lightened about 10% it seems to have a good overall match with other colors and a close match to photographs. If the brown is darkened about 10% it also makes a better match. Finally, adjusting the green about 20% seems to improve its color.
An alternative color pallet is offered by Iranian F-14 Tomcat Units in Combat, by Tom Cooper and Fazrad Bishop, Osprey Combat Aircraft No. 49, Osprey Publishing, 2004. Additionally, they offer a color chips for the IRIAF Blue Scheme.
For IRIAF Asia Minor:
FS 33531 Pale Sand
FS 34092 Mid Green
FS 30117 Brown
FS 36622 Light Grey
For IRIAF Blue Scheme:
FS 36622 Light Grey
FS 35450 Light Blue
Additionally, two other important colors are:
Radome Color: FS 27875
Swing Wing Gloves FS 36307 Dark Sea Grey
I have to say that the Asia Minor Scheme from Cooper and Bishop seems quite a bit off register in all three colors and much too light colored and clearly at odds with all the reference photos available on the web. The sand color needs to be shifted much darker and to the yellow and less red. The green is quite a bit too light and blue colored. The brown is also way to light colored. If I had to choose a scheme I would probably go with Don Color otherwise I would adjust the colors from Don Color as described above. Ultimately, anyone redoing this skin is going to need to try out a few versions in game until they get the colors the way they like them.
The Iranian Blue Scheme seems okay with regards to the grey color. However, the blue seems a bit bright and I would probably stick with the colors already being used with the current skin by Fafa.
Lots of Photos of the Asia Minor Scheme to confirm the paint scheme above. There is a slight amount of variation but mostly just the width of pattern. For the most part the schemes kept very close to one another.
