Object Previews - AGS / JOF / Barracken

Post by Gnat » 2004-07-08 13:33:49

Would anyone have gone and captured the 128x128 bmp files to do OBJECT PREVIEW's for AGS/other addons ?

Just dont feel like screen dumping/setting up so many files/addons :(

Oh yeah I have the industrial pack v3.0 made to 3d preview bmps now.

They are planned to be bonus download, I should probably do Baracken stuff too and add them to the download page.

Do anyone have Baracken or other AGS stuff made yet, how about SEB ILO or any other objects?

I was working on pictures of the BFV_Gecko objects, but it turns out not to work in wrptool (the bmp's I mean), but if finished I can send them to you.
Besides this, I only got these objects working in the mission editor. If I place them via Wrptool the won't work ingame. Did someone else noticed this of is it just me?

Could you send them to me, I'll try to fix the ini's up so they show up. Also I could add the bmp/ini's into the bonus preview image download when it will be available.

Zip/Rar up the images/inis and email to me, flashpoint AT nekromantix.com

I will send them to you, but the problem is not in the ini, I allready added them to the ini. But the problem lies ingame, it won't load the objects. But you can expect them soon.

Well, Snake_Man is working on a bonus addon which includes the pictures of several addon-packs I believe. Mayby he can tell us which pictures are needed. I'm willing to make some more if he wishes.

Well while you're at it, entires in 3dPreviewsicon_images.ini can be rewritten like

Code: Select all

data3dkrovi.p3d=testdata3d_krovi.bmp
instead of all lumped together like

Code: Select all

data3dkrovi.p3d=data3d_krovi.bmp
er, it works, that's why I am posting this.

Lists: (feel free to add)

RES and CWC have a number of misc objects and roads that could use previews.

Baracken is done thanks to Exodus.

I believe that Snake_man has completed a set of AGS previews, but I don't know if that is for the 3WX version or the basic AGS sets.

In any case, I believe that there are other 3WX packs that need to be done.

I don't have FDF yet (too big for dialup), may want to consider it too.

I44 and the other WW2 packs appear to be developing a pile of new goodies. I think though that for now as that content is still in private development that it should be handled internally to their projects, with what ever support we can give, with the 3dpreview packs being publically released of course.

There is also CAT's Afgan stuff and the IDF mod middle east buildings.

BAS has never made any formal announcement of allowing usage of the Tonal objects in maps other than the two Tonal maps Nagual made. This seems to go along with Selectthis's set of Ilo and Rssz maps, although the old Sebnam pack was understood to be 'ok'.

I guess I'll stick my neck out and try to get the ok for the Tonal and misc SEB content, and see if I can get some information on which build of CAT's Afgan stuff to draw from. I think the OpEnduringFreedom mod has taken it over.

I got Ebud's permission for the Ilo pack, it's almost done and should be posted in the morning for review. I'm still trying to get a hold of Nagual for Tonal. The Ilo version I have is all MLOD objects, so I got to go back and confirm if I really have the final release or not.

I'll post the pack along with notes explaining the subfolder structure I'm using to clean up the 3dpreview folder. Until we get some feedback direction from Snake_man about the official position of this, I'll volunteer to coordinate all this. I usually check in a couple times a day.

Yeah shinRaiden, you are free to do what ever addon preview images you want, no need to ask permissions. Do you need permissions to take screenshots? no, you dont.

I have the SEB stuff made ages ago and I think there is the AGS stuf, or at least some of it. If not I can quickly whip them up.

Checked the icon images out, they look pretty good. I surely fit them into the future bonus download for WrpTool.

Thanks for the hard work making these.

Seb_ilo is complete. Note that Ilo uses mlod objects, your mileage may vary. I used a private bin'd copy and everyone's favorite OdolEx to make the pictures, then shrunk them using Batch Image Processer.

I've also added a new class for the Objects.xml file for handling grass objects.

When you open the below linked rar file, you will have a wrptool folder. That is a placeholder equivelent to the folder where ever you have WRPtool installed. Copy the contents of the objects.ini and objects.xml files into your respective files, and make sure you get the xml code in the right place. WRPtool will tell you if you don't. :)

In the 3DPreview folder, you have a seb_ilo folder. Put that folder (not just the contents) into your 3DPreview folder, so that there is a seb_ilo subfolder in the 3DPreview folder. Then add the section from my icon_images.ini to yours.

seb_ilo.rar

Ilo is a bit messy as the final official release was in MLOD format. To make the pictures I made a binned copy, and then used that for WRPtool verification. Because of the different formatting, the end user will have to do the testing with the object placer tool to make sure that they get the objects in the right place for their terrain, until WRPtool fully supports MLOD's.

As for the BAS_O package, I haven't heard back yet so I'm going to try a different route. If you spend any amount of time digging through it's an interesting pile. I'm guessing that the intended purpose was to set it up so that the Resistance O.pbo would not have to be loaded, as I can't figure out any other reason for a lot of the material in there. As such, I doubt that the entire set would need to be processed.

Which is why I'd like to see WRPtool support using compression formats like JPG or preferably PNG instead of BMP's for preview resolution. Idealy it would be nice to have a mini-runtime ODOLex preview, but that would add some overhead as well.

Of course the BMP images are packed up with latest WinRAR using Best compression, this makes them nice and small. What space they take on the hdd dir is no concern to me.

I received the three emails, two bas O rars and one BFV Gecko one. Yeah it helps on the compression of the packet if you choose it to be "Best" under the drop down menu, you did that so everythign is cool. Why I like RAR is that its much better compression than the good old Zip.

The AGS Port and City packs are still independent, however the Industrial pack has been merged into the 3WX project. While the older Industrial pack is very common, the 3WX version adds a bunch of new pieces, additional components, and some bug fixes.

Can you make sure to specify which version of the AGS and CAT addon's you are doing?

Looks like the current build (being handled by either the Op. Enduring Freedom mod, the Lost brothers mod, or Remos Afgan Everon now...) is v3, ofp.gamezone.com file name is CATIntroupdtv3.rar.

I think that both the old AGS industrial and the new 3WX pack with the expanded new AGS industrial should be done.

Thanks.

I would highly recommend against doing the CAT poop afghan objects because they will be replaced in the future by the various teams doing a rework of the whole afghan theme.

Sure if you are impatient and believe what you see, that today you have only afghan stuff in the terms of the CATpoop guys work, then go ahead. But I'm pretty sure your hard work will be useless after the new afghan update comes.

Also, I dont think there is anyone even hinted that they are working on the CATpoo guys objects, just beause it was so unreliable on the releases. Heck, people wont even make missions for the island...

Since it's kind of hard to navigate OFP at 128x128, and ODOLex won't shrink that small, I used this tool to automatically scale all the picture sizes:

Batch Image Processor

I launched FRAPS, navigated to the folder in ODOLex, set up the shot, and fraps-screeny'd it. Then I went back and renamed everything, and then ran the whole folder through BIMP. Saves a bunch of time.
