Looks great. But what are the radios used for? can you talk in game through them? or are they just for show. I noticed a few units with one and i haven't got the chance to try one out.

the radio pack is attached on the models and only for show, on the other VTE units its part of the equipment but floating in the air, as far as I know the radio's can't be used for anything...

here's some pics of the progress so far

when I'm done with these units I was planning to try making some special forces units, I can add the Australians to them, I'm not sure if there's aussie units in the latest pre alpha release, havn't had the time to test it much but I'm pretty sure that they will be added sooner or later anyway, they kind of belong in VTE

Welcome aboard Agamoth, nice to have you with us :)

Start shooting some specific editing questions so we can have answers for you (even if they are "sorry dont know how to do that." heh), as said before the PMC Editing Wiki is our backbone where all knowledge is poured in. Use its search, its already very powerful database.

Also check out the vte_usmc.p3d, vte_aircav.p3d and vte_sf.p3d I created for the pre-alpha 11-23-07 release, they are in the vte_chara.pbo which should help you out some.
But what are the radios used for?
Radios are to be used in missions, for like checking if your radio operator is alive and then enable radio (0 menu) use or availability of airstrikes etc.
I'm not sure if there's aussie units in the latest pre alpha release
The configs are in, unit models are not.

Good work m8!!

Looks Great ,cant wait to see em in action!

The SF models that are ingame a of now i am starting to really like em.Villa's work? These really ported very well.Whoeever did the work did a very good job.I think they look 100times better now than they ever did in OFP.They did come up a little too "light greyish" though.I have several pics of this camo uniform( tiger stripe ) in books and i am very impressed by how much it looks like the real camo uniform. This was used for most SF, ARVN and many other units.By the end of the war this camo was very very common among officers etc who were lucky enough to get there hands on em.I have read in some aussie books that the U.S and Aussies did deals between themselves(grunts) swapping aussie beer and bush hats for camo uniforms, weapons, parts (and rides in F4 Phantoms 8-) ) and all sorts of stuff.

So to save(some) work i rekon that with a little bit of playn with these models could be used pretty much "as-is".

Also ,my favorite NAM models in OFP were the ones with the rolled up sleaves. If this could be done it would help to sell the "hot and sweaty" "NAM feel.

Nice work m8.Cant wait to see what else you can do for VTE :D :D

Umm the SF's model is completely my work with Vilas texture. I also agree that they are insanely grey.

I have no clue what OFP ports are you talking about, there is no OFP ports and wont be any, no OFP models are ArmA quality.

so far I just used your new textures, the colors was just what I needed, especially on the marines, I am very happy with them...

the SF units I'll be trying to make will take a long time so they are up to snake man so far, I wan't to try and make them as historical correct as possible, and with some unique things on each units so natural it will take time...

right now I'm working on helmet details

The units look great
The helmet details are amazing
The only grip I have with them is the long sleeves! It is really only a minor detail, but realistically, wearing long sleeves was only reserved for REMF [rear echelon mother fuckers] safe in the back lines. You can easily search for pictures of soldiers deployed in Vietnam and 9 out of 10 times you will see rolled up sleeves.

Anyways apart from that keep up the nice work!

I feel like I keep answering this, but the long sleeves will be your choise when they are done, most of them will come with a short and long sleeve version.
if you see pictures from vietnam with soldiers deep in the jungle, unless they are resting they will have their sleeves long, or being careless, going through the jungles of vietnam with short sleeves can be pretty dangerous...

another thing I have started modeling from scratch now, I finally figured o2 out, here's my first model.

no it's not and it's making me crazy, I can't get the geometry to work right, if I made a square bunker, no problem, when I make anything round, their not working I do the exact same thing with the geo as with the square, but I can still walk through most of it...

I got some good news and some bad news, the good is that I have fixed the random face problem, the bad is that I have to redo all the units with new base models

this is getting more and more confusing, I had a lot of models with the random face bug, then I found out that only some certain models would allow the random faces, I made one unit with one of those models the random faces worked perfect, then without checking I thought I needed to redo all the other models to get it working, but just now I found out that after inserting the one model that worked all the others now have random faces aswell, didn't do anything the config or anything I really have no idea what I did....

hello everyone...

sorry for having been quiet for some time, just before christmas I began to get ill, just after newyear I started to not be able to eat, so I dropped weight so fast it started to get really dangerous.
I'm not compleletly over it yet but I hope I will be soon...

during this time I still worked on my projects but from bed so I had only very limited internet acces...

I only need to make the finishing touch to the units but I havn't been able to figure out what exactly it should be, so I started making all sorts of models to get my skills up a bit so I could make some really cool new stuff for the nam units...

so far I made:
world war2 us infantry and 101st airborne (99% complete)
world war2 german ss (99% complete)
old school navy seals (100% complete, needs some permissions)
middle eastern rebels, highly detailed (90% complete)
modern danish desert infantry (80% complete)
danish army 60's era (100% complete)
world war1 infantry with correct gear including:
french inf.
british inf.
german early and late era inf. (with the pointy helmet)
austrian inf.
(all arround 50% complete)

so as you can see I have kept my self busy, you might wounder what all that has to do with the nam project, well it hasn't got anything to do with it but it has giving me the knowlage to start making some really great stuff for the nam stuff, like raincoats, new and more correct helmets, more puffy babby clothes to make it more nam uniform like, new backpacks with a lot of details, new objects like bunkers and trenches, I almost got it done so that the soldiers equipment jumps up and down when they run and of course I have also started working on some NVA and VC units....

USMC Grunt References

Post by bigstone » 2008-08-17 07:36:35

Hi Snake Man I know you guys are working hard on this cool mod. I just wanted to add some references for USMC troops, if your team is making any USMC troops:

http://www.diggerhistory.info/images/un ... d-usmc.jpg

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl= ... l%26sa%3DN

http://www.diggerhistory.info/images/un ... -svn01.jpg

I seen Agamoth's USMC troops in the current alpha release. The thing is the helmet is all olive green. If I can get the original model to have a friend of mine play with the USMC models in 02. He can probably make the USMC troops look more like the USMC troops seen in the movie Full Metal Jacket. Maybe change the flak jacket and have a pair of grenades near the belt buckle. Oh yeah have some of the troops have rolled up sleeves too. Well if you already have someone working on the USMC troops disregard the offer.

Nobody is working on the USMC models now. I'd gladly accept any help you can provide to improve them. PM me for details what you need etc to accomplish this.
