Post by Snake Man » 2007-12-21 18:37:19

This is the Iran v0.3 bug reporting topic, please keep the discussion about bugs only, thanks.

--- bugs
- OF has threat range circles CTD bug (all OF 128 theaters!?).
- check bridge alignment, object vs tile etc.
- change PAK city in Baghdad region to "Baghdad" from "Al A'Zamiyah
- campaign ground units M60 tanks, add variety.
- instant action/intel and campaign squadron select maps missing (default korean).
- add teams according to this list: Team 1: US, Team 2: Coalition (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq), Team 3: Afghanistan, Team 4: CIS (Turkmenistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan), Team 5: Pakistan, Team 6: Iran, Team 7: Turkey
- RED PRC team (5) (top-left corner) units are triple in many places, please check! Also few DRPK units, must be some country's TDF there twice, please check and redo if so.
- airbase types default 23_05 2 in the "west of ODS" part of the theater.
- airbase background tiles wrong terrain type in many bases.
- transition feature (road/river) tiling messed up in many places.
- campaigns still have CTD issues.
- Dubai area terrain and objectives are not compatible (widen terrain a bit?).

Iran version 0.3
Comments from Striker, 87th Stray Dogs

Airbases.
Source for QA; Google Earth, KARL_9999 posts.
Search Google Earth to find the place you need.
Exact or approximate runway headings listed, regardless of F4 possibilities.
State selection is missing, with the respective flags.
Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates,

Many large lakes are desert areas. Manual fixing ?

All STRIPS seems to have a 3D Object problem with overlapping runway.

It's a live post, working on it. If I could have some directions I could put in the data where they belong, in the files. Priority one is airfields in Iran, then I thought I'd start on Early Warning Radar stations. If someone else could do the airbases south and west of Iran. I'll talk to Murad about Turkey.

You're doing good work by posting information here. RedDog is the airbase expert so he can talk with you here directly.

There is really no good way of you doing the edits yourself, as RedDog is preparing his excel (or something) master files and then saving the csv and stations.dat for me which I then implement into the official releases. CSV is done into tacedit and stations.dat is just dropped into the campaign dir.

Keep doing what youre doing, researching and posting feedback here. All is saved & backupped so no need to worry about that.

Wilco, going through all air fields and bases in Iran. I'll include Pakistan too.

Will start on early warning and radars after that.

After that I'll start on bunkers/ammo dumps. They are many and they are huge. Could we create something for it ?

Lamurt is working on neighbour states north of Iran. Could anyone do states west of Iran ?

For insight on SAM defences around the region, download SOC's KML file from here: http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showthreaded ... ber/406094

Need some help.....

As a part of the upgrade of the defence of UAE, Dubai and Abu Dhabi new fighter where bought, F-16 E/F and Mirage 2000-9. A new base situated closer to Saudi Arabia was also constructed. This based is called Al Safran. I have located two places where unfinished bases are shown on Google Earth, and they are VERY close. Can anyone help pinpointing which one is Al Safran ?

Google Earth position 1: 23° 38.939'N 53° 48.912'E

Google Earth position 2: 23° 41.356'N 53° 52.163'E

If Al Safran is the southern one, what is the vacated northern airbase ?

@ 87th_striker:

Have you cross-referenced your bug report post above with Red Dog's post here: viewtopic.php?t=21076

and continued here: viewtopic.php?t=21119

In those posts he was talking about certain airbases/airstrips he was leaving out because there would be just too many if they were left in. Could you please go through his posts and delete those airbases/airstrips fom your post above that are mentioned as being left out intentionally?

Thanks. That is will make it easier to address the ones that were overlooked.

As above, I was told to post here. I have no clue if my information is used or not. A lot of the information in the .e00 AB files are old and unusable.

Lamurt and I split the area to get it done, scanning Google Earth for any signs of strips and bases.

Since there is no indication that the work is of any kind of value, I've just stopped it.

But building new theaters based on info from the 1980's alone doesn't sound good to me.

Since there is too many bases /strips, is that a limitation in F4 code or is it a time consumption matter ?

The fact that I dont reply big smileys and dancing bananas for every post in the forums, doesnt mean that research isnt appreciated. Of course it is appreciated, anybody helping to develop theaters gets our appreciation.

It is not a limitation of the F4 code but more a matter of keeping the number of airbases low enough to not make a TE or campaign map too clutter with too many possibilities. I believe that was what Red Dog was attempting to accomplish by limiting the number of airbases/airstrips in the theater.

I don't care about dancing fruit, SM. I just need to know if something are used or not.

I see no reason not to include all bases and strips in the theaters. They aren't that many, and they can be generalized by the data harvested.

I also see the need to exclude the bases not active anymore. There are some of those , too.

I would say that there should be a coordinated feature harvesting. War production, Nuclear, Harbours, Bridges, Military camps and ammo dumps and some more...... Remember that those old feature files really are close to worthless for some of the feature types.

We could set up some fields needed for feature harvesting, coordinate the effort, make examples of what to look for and where to find them. Then we could include them in an updated feature file for the theater.

Here is a link to a good analyst pages: http://geimint.blogspot.com/

OF VERSION
When editing a TE, Airbases and Objects dissapear from the playing map when I am in the TE, very dissapointing while I am on the historical 8 years campaign creation.

You used OF TE to build the TE mission and this is where objects disappear?

That's a wrong palette applied to the set, or just different palette across the tiles in the set.

But the tile doesn't have any continuation of the river through it (drawn on it)....?

trees. i saw few trees. could be river-road tile..but no road noted.

BTW i just checked the tiles of iran theater.. very impressive..it's far better than expected. If i knew it earlier, i should have suggested you use this set of tiles for Afghanstan and Lybia.. maybe Nevada.

anyway i think the terrain work at [Iran-Iraq war area] is good enough for simming. :D

Has a new tile and terrain type (corrected) now.Although Falcon(Code) is not too particuler to the tile art, when it come's to PathMaker it is particular to what terrain type's\elevation's a GU can cross. But, I bet you already knew that!!!!ATM my Iran install has NO!!! Bridge's (will add them back later) and the GU's are moving quite well!!!!! Reason!?!?! ~4300 Bridge Object's (+ the rest = > 7000 object's) well exceed's both the Code (i.e. src\rsrc crash on Exit) and the available Tool's capacity.

Gotcha!!!
But in Iran v03, that, how can I say???? River\Bridge tile was ahhh!!! painted wrong (does'nt matter). No biggie 'cause the Code does'nt care about the art.Drap a towel over a chair and that is what it READSIN.It's TYPE was wrong, I will PM you on that.

As said I believe I mixed the palettes on the bridge tiles, or just "intentionally" made wrong palette for them, there are several difference bridge tiles in one set and its much easier to mess up the palette a bit than to go and change texture.bin for new bridge tiles and then re-tile the whole terrain.

But I added this into bug list and will look into this on the next time I work on ODS tiles.

I tried the direct download link and could not download it; it timed out. I am not registered at this site so perhaps that makes the difference?

IMO the site has too many damn popups, loud music in the ads, etc. I think this is an obnoxious download site. I am sure there are others easier to use and much less obnoxious, e.g., filehosting.org

Hehe multiupload.com only uploads the file into several other real hosting sites, its sort of a link site. I have not heard any music in there but I believe there is one popup on sometimes. I'm using latest public firefox + admuncher.

Version 0.3.1: Installed on i7-930/Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R mobo with 6GB Corsair triple channel DRAM
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional x64
Monitor: Samsung T260 (26")
Video Card: Gigabyte GV-R577UD-1GD RADEON HD 5770
Hard Drive: Western Digital 1002FAEX 1TBytes

Installation of F4:Allied Force was fine. Terrain normals fine. Install finished successfully.
Top campaign (SAVE2.CAM) would enter 2D fine but would CTD upon entry into 3D world. EDIT: I performed the following steps in TacEdit on this .CAM file and it seemed to clear up the problem of entering 3D world:
a. Open TacEdit (I'm using TacEdit version 2.48).
b. Open SAVE2.CAM file in TacEdit.
c. Switch to Map View
d. Click "Objectives" -> "Repair Objectives" -> "Check Objectives" -> "Auto Flag Objectives"
e. Click "Units" -> "AutoFix Units" -> "Check Units" -> "Rebuild Squadrons"
f. Click "File" -> "Save" (or just click on Floppy Disk symbol)
g. Exit TacEdit

Middle campaign (SAVE0.CAM) ran fine in both 2D and 3D worlds.
Bottom campaign (SAVE1.CAM) ran fine in 2D but I got mixed results in 3D. It let me into 3D all the times I tried it but two out of three missions AF quit responding and Crashed To Desktop (CTD). The one mission I was able to fly across the Gulf and try to bomb Bushear (but I got shot down by the F-14Bs) ;).

STATIONS.DAT file is old (from Korea). Red Dog provided Iran stations.dat two year ago for inclusion (July 2008). It's been left out again. Here is a link to it if you need it again: http://www.mediafire.com/?56ed5p6d6gqaxd0

Here's a download link for the fixed SAVE2.CAM file: http://www.mediafire.com/?x39saxcpivcp5fa

I confirm Sherlock's report and fix for the save2.cam, in AF, though I did not have a problem with the save1.cam in my AF install.
FF5 was okay except for the exit game CTD.(Known problem with Lg Theater's\Camp's. in FF)
Hav'nt got to OF yet,it's only been 24hrs. or so!!!!
Thank's for the Stations.dat Sherlock!!! There would'nt be a Clean Iran.wch file out there somewhere, would there???

TACAN stations.dat problem fixed in my installer dir, will 100% show up on next version for AF and FF. Do you guys know the difference between AF/FF dat and OF dat, could we create it ourselves or is it more complex?

Should be able to port easily to OF\BMS. Again though the file structure\naming convention's may rear their ugly head's.
Dunno?? at this point on OF 'cause they seemed to have changed some thing's in how they produced the stations.dat.It may be easier just to throw it in there and remove the # in the OF TDF for min Tacan and see if it works!!!!!

Reason: please dont hotlink very large (file size) images. 100kb per image is ok, 300kb is not.
