identifying a set of tiles

Post by Red Dog » 2009-08-24 15:32:12

Hi gents, what's the best tools to identify a specific set of tiles at a given location?
Terrainview?
If so How to do it? Any quick leads?

If it is terrain view? how can I get to the X,Y coordinates I see on the game?

Thanks

Was thinking of writing here essay of terrainview operations, but I just ask "what do you want to do exactly?"

I have a set of X, Y in game coordinates as well as lat and long
What I want is pinpoint the name, type of a tile exactly at that point

Imagine this, i'm adding an airbase at a set of coordinates but I need to know which tile are there for now, so I can make sure the airbase tiles I will add are blended correctly with the surrounding tiles.

Clear enough?
basically I need to be able to pinpoint the tiles used at a set of X,Y or lat&Long coordinates

I actually meant just what you are doing, like "working on saudi arabia south east bridge tiling for ODS theater", but anyways.

For tools, you need tacedit, terrainview and theatermaker package.

When you know the x,y position of an object, then open "TV Converter.exe" found in theatermaker package (I hate how that program has spaces in file name) and type in the Tacedit X and Y values of your objective. Then look at the Section # for X and Y, these are the Segment numbers for Terrainview. So open terrainview, use the grid to find correct segment, double click it and in then look the 16 x 16 grid of tiles and choose the correct one looking at the Tile # in the TV Converter util.

That's how I would do it.

thanks Snake. I missed the TV converter link

Now I just need to fight terrainview a bit so to load the tiles correctly and I'll be fine I guess
Thanks
