Powerlines and Towers - Solution needed

Post by Washout » 2002-08-16 20:51:00

Hi All

I'm sure some of you may have noticed that the SP3+ database includes objectives for powerlines and towers etc - Thanks to Jerry Davis for getting these in.

Anyway I have been toying with the idea of putting them in the Balkans and somebody has kindly sent me a map showing the main power grid for the Balkans region. To place the objectives however is going to take some time as you need one objective placed every L2 tile.

I was thinking is there any way with the TCL support in TACEdit to take a 1024x1024 map showing the power grid and getting the objective position to match the map pixels?

Thought I'd ask before embarking on another "long haul".

Do you have ingame screenshot of these powerlines?

Nope. It would be cool though, maybe you can persuade Codec to code such function for it.

Would be nice to just paint SAM sites + other important stuff into the map and the run TCL to create the objectives itself.

I'm not sure though how TCL would handle BITMAP reading like CATE does...

Think I got the grid in the whole of Serbia and Kosovo with the attack dates and consequence of attack. Also the softkills :-) with the streamers. About 40 megs of data. BDA for each strike.

Spacing between towers for the EHV grid should be about 200-250 meter.

you know where to find me i guess...
i also have some tactical flying charts depicting the power lines of parts of the region so...

Hi Guys

Thanks for the responses.

Snakeman - I'll try a few by hand in the next day or two and post a screenie (from LODEditor/f4browse they look really good :)).

The only problem I can see with them is that I expect they can only be used on flat terrain (something I need to investigate for other projects).

Striker - Wow that would be some cool info - if you have it online somewhere I could grab it.

The spacing between towers IIRC is 500m but I guess it could be adjusted (fps will play a part here). Also I'm only planning these as eye candy for the moment as I have no idea if we can assign supply properties etc to them.

Joeri - Thanks as ever - I'll be in touch.

Quick update - the spacing of the towers looks to be 200m - spot on then :)
