tool for UI Map editing

Post by Jester87 » 2003-07-11 15:00:00

Hi gang

Is there a utility to export and import the mission planning background map?

I was reading the tutorials and read about the perl way, however being so technically illiterate when it comes to code stuff like that, i found it to be beyond my understanding.

What i would like to do is to take the map for Korea, Balkans or whatever and make a version that outlines restricted airspace, military only areas, training ranges etc. The ability to mark (on the map) important landmarks etc.
This would help greatly in mission planning.
If somone could make a tool similar to the UIres tool, that would just make my day :)

As a complete coding idiot myself I can tell you that the usage of the perl scripts is very easy. Just go to http://www.activestate.com/Products/ActivePerl/ and download/install the package.
Download and extract the Terrain Scripts (http://www.pmctactical.org/f4/downloads ... cripts.zip) somewhere. Go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Button System Variables and add the path to the scripts to your "path" variable.
Now you can make simply use of the scripts by writing the name of the screipt anywhere in the command line, just like in the tutorial ( like "proc1idx.pl main.idx").

Ok thanks to the ultimate terrain tutorial and a little help from SnakeMan in irc as well as Ben Ben who told me where to get the perl stuff, i have found out how to do this.

1. if you are a completely new to this like me, all you need to do is to install the perl package as BenBen said.

2. Copy the the terrainscripts to the art\resource directory (i made a seperate resource directory to play with).

3. The tutorials all have commands begining with ./ (due to linux) but i found out that one has to write "perl" instead in the command line.

4. when you are IN the resource directory type the following :
code:

Code: Select all

perl procidx1.pl campmap.idx
This will extract BIG_MAP_ID.tga and BIG_AWACS_MAP_ID.tga to the directory.
they are now yours to play with.

When your done playing with them, and want to add them again type
code:

Code: Select all

perl irc2res1.pl campmap.irc
thats it i think.
