First time using DEM2L2

Hello people.

I have been using F4 for a while and wished I could take off from my local Base, so I decided to learn this terrain stuff.
I have looked in the tutorial section, and gathered most of the information, I have downloaded the .bin .fmd .hdr files for a lat/lon of 145E - 157E, -27S - -37S.
Then I downloaded the e00 files for New South Wales, as specified in the tutorial.

My question is,... Now what? The DEM2L2 file keeps crashing constantly, it won't even let me select a file to open, or anything and even if it did, I do not know if my selections were adequate for what I want to do, etc... I want pretty much to accomplish a coastline of New South Wales, some land, some water, with all of NSW's Air Bases.

If someone could help with maybe, a way to stop this from crashing or tell me an easier way than the tutorial explained. Please help.

I suspect that the path names get too long. So I suggest you install it in..like c:\dem2l\ or similar.

hmm. there are some known versions of dem2lf.exe wich crash while producing the coast *.tdf

would you mind stating wich version you got from dem2lf.exe, do this by checking properties..version of the *.exe in windows

also do you see a red box apear in the map, seems to me you downloaded a rather small aeria, it might be that you need to download a bigger aeria as Wales is more up to the poles..

If you got a fast connection, download a 20*20 aeria this just to be safe that the red box will fill the map

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the replies, I have Version 1.23 Build 2, 23th March 2001.
The program crashes when it is in C:\temp
I moved it to C:\program files\falcon4\dem2l\
and still have crashes, the errors may be memory, The specific error is "Alt array memory allocation failure!", and also "dem2l2 has cause an error in " although it doesn't specify what it caused an error in.
I do have a 10 x 12 area downloaded, but I may download a larger one,... its just New South Wales is only about 10 x 12.

well when does the program crash
-when you start it
-when you load them map data
-when you load the terrain features
-when you transform the map
-when you save the map

please be as specific as you can be

Hello People,

Widowmaker : The program crashes when I try to change any of the 'Preview' settings, and also, if I load a .HDR file into Dem2l2, then press transform.
It will get to 300 or something, out of the 4096 then lock up the whole computer, having to reboot.
Also, the preview never actually displays anything even after loading a .HDR file.

Mister.. Bills-ville (RAAF Williamtown), is also home to 3sqn F-18, 77sqn F-18, 76sqn Hawk/Macchi/PC-9 FAC... Its about 30mins from my place... where r u from BTW???

As for the hassle you describe, havent come across that yet using DEM2L... (am working on a seriously nasty Nordic Winter idea)... so sorry...

second you NEED to download a bigger DEM
as England is rather up north..
Dem2lf crashes when you got a too small DEM

normally you can check this in the map view
yet in your case it impossible

if you request so I'dd be happy to run the map for you
