Hi, all,
well, recently I've substituted the texture, with a new set povided by Aeyes, so much of the good looking of this 3d pit, is all about Aeyes. Our goal is to match the future 1600x1200 2d pit, as more close as we can.
The pit is near completition, and time permit, when ready I'll release as a single patch for SP3 and Free Falcon.

It is now June 2nd... a full month since the creator said he was close to finishing...

Any more news on this 3D pit's release?

hope to have some more free time to finish.
I'll manage to release this on a F4patch, for both Sp3 and FF.

Great job Daws!

If possible, maybe you could use more polygons on canopy rim, should look even better.

Eheh, they look (the tiles) marvelouse (if I've write corectly)
:D
The Look of the pit is only possible with the great contribution of Aeyes's texture.

Hi Daws, it is getting better and better! Wow, good job!
I agree with CCC, if possible a little more polys on the canopy rim would make it better, the rest looks very nice.

GREAT, enough, surely enough! :D

btw, you may replace Front-up panel texture for E/F model pits.

That looks much smoother Daws! Well done.
Another suggestion, can you make the inside of the panel glareshield darker? Also the lightgrey canopy frame a bit darker?

Re E/F, as soon as I have a front panel (UCP) ready will send it to u.

As you wish! :D
For the e and f variants, I'll wait for Quake to finish the model, because the different fuselage shape.

I've planned to add a totally 3d stick, like Janes F/a18, but dun't know if the final result is better than to have a flat bmp. And another problem is if i dof the stick to aileron and stab, because the particular way of how this surface move, when you roll, the stick move also back or forward, any suggest?

ask Quake, may try nesting DOFs- for X and Y axis movement. hey i rather have a canopy DOF in 3d pit!

For the stick it is possible
for the conopy no... the file EXE of the Sp3 doesn't allow this

I must disagree to you Quake, Canopy open is definetly possible in 3d pit, but, there're some problem to workaround:
1) how to mach on the 2d pit? Is possible, but the 2d pit must have all the canopy frame in 3d. Is a work of match the bmp on the 3d. Aeyes what do you think?

2) there some problem on the reflections, because the glass of the canopy "box" must completly redo to match the frame.

Tomas Hamarcak has do a good work on canopy open in F16 pit, if someone of you want contact him: hamarcak@netsystem.cz

To Quake: ti mando il lod con uno stick di riferimento (un rettangolo ;-), fai il possidile coi nested dof, mettili in fondo al tree, poi aggiungerò lo stick in seguito. Grazie.

Daws I agree, Tomas has made very good progress on the canopy open thing.
We talked about it and I suggested that the canopy get's the textures of the sides, so it can be erased from the 2D views.
There was one problem though, Tom said that when going through a cloud or smoke the 3D part would be behind the smoke...inohter words, smoke over the 3D parts.

So I think it is possible to open the canopy, also including reflections,(Tom managed to connect these to the 3D moving part when opening), the 2D graphics need to become 3D pit textures and the 2D need to be made into opened canopy always.

If you model the stick, i think the throttle should be modelled too. And if possible (but I am trying to far always i know ;) ) if possible add the arms/gloves too.
I think you gentlemen knwo best what is possible or not with the max polys of Falcon 3D models.

and from 3d:

To Aeyes: make a hand in 3d is really a task that is far from my skills, about the throttle you don't see it in 3d dpit, because the angle limit in view movment.

cool shots.

my 2c here, for 2d pit- leave it alone.
for 3d pit, make a solid curve canopy with adequately stretched reflection texture, i think LOMAC does the same thing- both won't got a dynamic reflection, to include pilot's image in reflection.

for 3d arm/hand/stick, there should be lots 3ds modelers can do this, better in low-poly style.

OT, maybe add a lite beam under 3d pit, for nite landing assistance. i've tested this idea in early lods, an ovoid lightened area in front of 3d pit.

Yes, I've tryed, when you fly trought cloud, the 2d pit lod, become white. Probably because MP had set up only the wing in older 2d pit, and of course they're surrounded by cloud when fly. I've tryed to change the poly with no shaders, and use PT instead of CP, but nothing change. Here a new reason to continue exe change :D .
Another problem is the wide view, because it isn't really "wide", only the bmp change not the FOV, the bmp dosen't match at all in the wide view.

I would say for 2D pit wideview leave it alone, but for normal 2D view try to match the 3D moving part with 2D environment.
It is not easy, but it is possible and development means use what is possible.

I also think this can be developed in steps, first this than that.
A working 3d Pit for any other plane is a big step already, and added movable parts are great but first things first.
