Yellow sea - another Gulf of Sidra?

As US-korea joint exercise about entering yellow sea..PMC Korea 128 theater do give simmers a good picture of this area.

in some falcon campaigns( default korea 64x64 map), US carriers are placed at Korea bay to strike DPRK .. which appear endangering US ships under PRC firepower. Now the 128 map suggests US carriers better not operate at the north half of yellow sea.

Apart from SU27/30/J11/J10, PRC also deploys naval striker JH-7/H-6 in this area..so..another yellow sea war?

campaign idea - limited conflict, 48-72 hours. US vs PRC.
US - one or two carrier group and several support ships. AWACS and F-22 support from japan(change some jpn AFB ownders to US). priority - DCA/SEAD/Antiship.
PRC - several warship and fast attack boat groups, plus all air and SAM asset. priority - Antiship/DCA.

ending trigger - use timeup stalement, or sea force ratio.

what's fun? overwhelming red raid..pure naval aviation heroism, no ground unit involved.

PS- falcon engine won't support cruise missile or anti-carrier ballistic missile..so, missing some exotic part.

Is File -> Properties configured OK?

Can you be more specific, what does Tacedit say as error?

Are you loading Korea 128 campaign directorys .cam or from FF551 for example?

i updated the pic.

PLAN-AF AB with blue mark, ac type and unit # in black.
PLAAF AB with red icon, ac type in white, unit# in yellow.

also add major SAM circle, according to Planeman's guide.

well..128 theater shoulde open your strategic scope in this area.. when you flying 64x korea.. you don't know china is so close - you can not sent US carrier into yellow sea! In 1950 korea war era, china has very limited air and naval power, so US can launched Incheon landing.. today is a totally different case. PLA recently did rocket artillery exercise in yellow sea.. they fired PHL03 - 150km range rocket, which can almost reach the middle line of yellow sea!

DPRK air power deployment according to scramble.nl site. of course they can re-deploy ac but, the east coast- airdefense is quite weak.

Image
Japan air power map.. note: only few AFBs got fighters.. Japan claimed to strengthen its air power at SW sector.. that's it, aiming at the challenge from PLA.

ROK air power links.. no pic.

How about if I give you list of airbase names, then you would write down number and type of squadrons to add in the correct ones, I could easily write TCL script out of that data and have your campaign get started?

Okay I'll do the TCL template, you can then edit it yourself for carrier placement etc.

Please edit your earlier post and list only the lines which have squadrons added, no need to copy paste the whole airbase list :)

note - the ac type are from FF DB.. hope all of them working and not cause CTD due to DB issue. examples like newly added F-2A and P-3C.

say, a working template based on scramble.nl and other internet info is very cool..once all sq are on station, it could look like a mini-WW3!

Perl? there is no perl involved in this...

Open the rar, check the readme and start tacedit. All is very easy. Let me know how it runs.

The JSDF F-1 and F-2 have not been completed. The P-3 Orion is setup, but please explain to me what role as defined by the 41 mission types avail. to the ATM this a/c would fly.

The P-3 should be AMIS_ASW ,but I think it is backward's again in this release.May want to check the naming convention's. Remember that B***'er was trying to get his Airlift\Airdrop thingy working.

There is nothing wrong with the FF5.5 mission.dat file, if that is what you are trying to say. What is wrong in my opinion is the inclusion of a/c that are not flyable by human pilots, tasked with the destruction of large capital assets. The P-3 is an ASW aircraft..that means Anti Submarine Warfare, not Anti Ship Warfare, as the mission is defined in Falcon. They are no Submarines in Falcon, so again, this a/c has no role in Falcon.

With the limit on Units in Falcon, the Campaigns designers should use care in determining how many of the available slots they fill with items the player can't play, or only work statistically, which by the way..don't help you win the war.

Agreed!!!
We\They have not got that yet. But,across the board (AF\BMS Boyz) some of them may want to include it in their Theater's.
I never said the mission.dat in FF5.5.1 was WRONG only that it seemed "Backward's" on those two mission type's.

That's All,

after tweaking team relationship and priorities..initial test shows:

- with very limited ground vehicle targets, and limited mission types, US-ROK-Jpn alliance fighting against PRC-DPRK.
- JH-7 from shangtong pennisula and Shanghai area launch antiship strike on US carrier.
- JASDF flying over Korea for AA support.
- PLA fighters, their flights are fewer than expected.
- US carrier air wing do good job, ac like E2c and EA6B keep patrolling.
- CTD while exit sim. i ran default PMC korea128 third cam, no CTD.
- PAK map messed up, i think all 128 theater PAK maps are messed up.
- airlift activities are too high in PRC and S.korea. i assumed there're too many cargo ac sq, or base need more supply, or mission priority should be reduced?

anyway, it's a good "test" to apply internet info(mainly scramble.nl) on sim war. not bad.

Congratulations you got the TCL scripts running! :)

It wasn't hard at all, you see that now eh?

If you want to proceed, I can add ground unit placement script there too, except that this campaign type cant really use ground to ground fighting forces... unless you simulate some US invasion or? Anyways just let me know if you want the ground unit placement scripts added.

BTW do you think now you have the basic TCL knowledge, so you can build your own test campaigns for new theaters?

yeah..incredible.. speechless

I've to admit it's hard to simulate such a limited conflict - target type is limited, mission type is limited, operation area is limited, and need a sufficient flights generated. Ground war and more target/mission types seem the only the way to boost up air activities.. well, once korea ground war involved, it turns into a large-scale korea war type campaign. hmm.. ok, add ground unit script.. but i got to fix/adjust some error in current tcl first. (bug like F-5E in DPRK, missing or redundant F-2A, too many carog ac, etc)
BTW do you think now you have the basic TCL knowledge, so you can build your own test campaigns for new theaters?
no. it takes time to learn..

just updated ac sq tcl.

SM, please send me your korea128 "ground unit tcl" - the one both sides are along 38 line, not crossing line yet.

Okay here they are, I have cleaned them out to be smaller by removing all except the first two battalion creation lines, so if you use these scripts 1:1 you will not get the same result as in official Korea 128. You need to add more ground units x,y coordinates yourself.

Let me know if there is any problems.

BTW I'm currently working on completely new set of TCL functions to place divisions at once, it will be super easy to place large amount of ground troops so you get all branches from infantry to main battle tanks as well as supply units etc.

before i adding ground units..one question:

how to add/place SAM battalion according to internet info? i know TCL place SAM/AAA units to some base or city obj.. but when i manually place one SAM unit, it won't show up.

ps- i need korea128 bmp for TacEdit use/placing SAMs.

I am just dealing with similar problem in Eu ccc.

I want to do it this way:
There are some specific "base" objectives (hilltops?) for specific SAM types, I guess. I need to sort out these objectives at first.
Then I want to place them by hand (or using the bmp file + "object placer"? - zero experience). After that I will slightly modify TCL script to place proper SAM to it's "native" hilltop (or some other rather minimalistic objective in case, there are not enough specific hilltops).

Hope it is the good way. Any comments are wellcomed.

Hmm I'm not exactly sure what you mean by placing SAM's and they not showing up...

How do I place SAM coverage; I place SAM Site in tacedit OBJECTIVES (not units). Ie in mapview do RMB -> Add Objective -> SAM site. Check our wiki about other values like priority etc.

Then RMB click the (placed) SAM site and choose Add Unit -> Battalion -> Air Defense -> SA-2 (for example), then add Orders: Air defense.

Then it shows up in-game just fine.

Other than that, as mentioned I normally place air defense units from script.

However... I have been wondering lately if for example I can place SA-2 unit as normal ground unit without "hooking" it up for ground Objective and giving it air defense orders. Could the SA-2 site move? (in real life they are hauled with trucks), would it still engage enemies while moving etc?

Would anyone care to test this? :)

SM, i try to use your ground tcl.. but it cause script error, it can not find this:
source "D:\\F4_Theaters\\F4_Conf_files\\TCL\\create.brig.bat.sub.tcl"
maybe wait your final version?

Just to restate the obvious...

there is a difference between a SAM Site (objective) and a SAM Battalion (Unit). :)

Certain SAMs will not move. The SA-2, SA-3, HAWK and SA-5 are examples of those. They are fixed site SAMs. Other SAMs are mobile, e.g., SA-4, SA-6, SA-10 and Patriot. Fixed site SAMs will always show up ingame in the enemys recon views. The mobile SAMs will NOT show up unless a enemy recon or combat unit has sited them recently. You cannot assign a non-moving SAM to move in game. I've tried. Hope this helps.

Well you are quick to give up...

I have updated my earlier post with the TCL scripts, I added the create.brig.bat.sub.no.offset.tcl version of this script there, this is nice one as it doesn't align your units into formation, it just stacks them on top of each other. Usually on start of campaign they start to move and therefore spread out.

Obviously you must change the called script file name.

Again, let me know how it turns out.

You have control of SAM's moving or not in F4Browse. In the Units record there is the 'move type' field. Any Unit with a move type of 0 (zero) will not move. The other move types are: 1=Foot, 2=Wheeled, 3=Tracked, 4=Low Air, 5=Air, 6=Naval, 7=Rail. If you wish to have a SAM Unit that moves, and 1 that does not, you need 2 separate Units.

Hmm okay can you please show me simple changelog, I mean you added bunch of stuff here since I sent you the original TCL files or?

BTW you can add comments to TCL files by adding text like

# ccc 08-06-10
# added 17 new MIG29 squadrons for this airbase according to new scrample.nl info here:
# http:// blabla scrample

etc :)

changelog?
well i just convert all info collected from internet into tcl lines.. make the sq/ac type and deployment "closer" to real world fact. (missing JASDF F-2A).

you may consider use them as a tamplete..tweaking them for campaign variants.
