Will afgahnistan be part of SP2's theatre switching? Also how is tiling coming along?

Hello Ender,

I'm not sure that any new theaters will come automatically with SP2. I think what they are focussing on is getting the in-game theater switcher to work and simplifying the theater switching to make it easier for people to create new theaters. I'm confidant the Afghanistan theater will be able to take advantage of those changes.

Also, frankly, there's been no tiling in Afghanistan for awhile. With the holidays and some "real world" stuff, we've not been able to really start that up. Plus, I think alot of people who are involved are also involved with ME and SuperPak. Feel free to sign up to tile ME, in the meantime, if you want. Alot of that experience will carry over to when we get to the nitty gritty of tiling Afghanistan.

How about some ODS textures, Operation Enduring Freedom sounds good, andwhen ever possible.

Tile set? combine ODS and Korea ones? brand new set? i think the terrain visual is the transition between these two.

campaigns? the challenge of Operation EF could be too low. Historical russian invasion, playing the rusky part will be the same, face-to-face resistance is low too.(though they lost a lot a/c there).

So, fictional campaigns should be the answer.

1. historical enhanced in 1980. Russian and Iran invade, USAF/USN/MC based on Pakistan and carrier to counter russian forces, wpn set at 1980 level.

2. fictional Iran invade, set in 1980, or 2005. minimal UN forces based in Afghan for reginal guard, need support later. Iran could use more ground forces and a/c.

3. fictional CIS and Iran invasion. set in 2005 or 2010, maximal upgraded new power to regain regional control.

how bout Pakistan and India go at it? Is that in the area? Also why not Op. EF? Its current and whats happening now.

i think india is outside theater coverage.

op EF, the resistance is minimal.

Yeah i know, but we can make it where the Afganies have some a/c, you know those Mig-21s that were bombed. Besides whats wrong with little air resistance? The ground war is goin good over there.

well, i think the ground war is Ghost Recon or Operation Fashpoint type. not our familar massive steel crash type.

Oh ok, Can we hae Op EF anyway though? i know theres not much even for the Falcon, but its historical soft of (still goin on).

Sure I'll make Enduring Freedom for you in the terms of possibility from Falcon 4 engine and our terrain.

First can you provide any info on how much Pakistan has let US forces to use its bases.

Because in my current preview campaign I have KC-135's and AWACS stationed on SW Pakistan and most strike forces comes from two carrier fleets in the ocean. If we cannot use Pakistan for land based aircrafts, it will severely hinder the campaign.

Of course any other info is more than welcome, did the US launch any flights from Turkmenistan/Uzbekistan for example etc etc.

Please forgive me for the names, but there are F-16s to the west of Afganistan, is Diego Garcia in the theatre? there are B-52's and B-1s there. The B-2 will come in there for a day or two then leave, so maybe that can be modeled.

Only thing "west of afghanistan" is Iran that I know of

I've been kinda thinking of this. How precise with squadrons do you need the info to be? I could probably get something reasonably close to reality within a couple days.

As far as release goes, I'm thinking the closer to SP2a release the better. I figure releasing something somewhat rough would be consistent with the first release.

Also, as far as tiles, right now the ODS tiles are best IMHO. Getting new or just additional tiles would change the potential release date from a matter of days to one of those its-out-when-its-out kinda things.

I believe that some US support planes are/were based in Pakistan, as well as Turk. and Uzbek. (and Mazr-E-Sharif and Kandahar when they were "liberated"). I have a feeling some attack planes from other countries (France?) were also based in the former Sov. Republics. I'll try to get more on that.

Okay so guestion goes... do we add FULL SET of ODS textures (over 30mb) or just a clean basic terrain types + roads, rivers & cities (few megs)?
