Europe airbase

Post by Red Dog » 2002-05-30 09:39:00

Snake Man,

The airbase list for Europe is complete with all airport info, rnw, ils frequencies, navaids channels and freq and range.
The stations.dat can now be generated in no time :) provided I can dig the approach index
For those interested, grab the file here http://www.candyparty.com/ST/SP/Airbase_list.zip

I also uploaded the general info list for most of the countries involved. Beware, that one is heavy as it contains maps with Ab location:
get it there http://www.candyparty.com/ST/SP/Euronorth_AB.zip

Now, I used the IDs.csv file you sent me to get the ID of the airbases. From that file, I noticed there are 1193 airbase in the theater.
IMHO, this is far too many. What you have there are all runways of the involved countries, from the biggest civilian airports to the milirtary airbases but with the smallest private aeroclub as well.

For my research on the airbase list, I considered all military airports of each country plus the major civilian ones.
I did not consider the small private airport or the aeroclubs.
With that in mind, I may have missed some civilian airports that could be supported , so these could be added.

In the end of the line, I have only 245 airports for the Euronorth theater. All being airport and no airstrip. It makes already a lot to manage and IMHO, it's more than enough to simulate a conflict in the area.

You can get a modified Ids spreadsheet http://www.candyparty.com/ST/SP/Id_europe.zip

All comments welcome, but here because I'm reformating and have no email at this time

Cheers

Yeah when flying the europe theater there is airbase after airbase, when you are on final landing pattern you most likely pass few airbases :)

So yeah it might be good idea to remove the bulk of the airbases and only stick to those which are really important for war effort.

Do you happen to have all the good airbases in tacedit CSV file?
If so, I could only delete all airbases and then import your good airbase list back to the campaign.

Quite frankly, I'm not fluent with Tacedit :)
On the other hand, I selected all supported airbase from your Ids CSV and created a new tab named "supported", on the same file.

There you have the same format of the Ids csv but with only the 245 airports.

Would that be of any help?

If not, give me the title line for the Tacedit CSV file, and I'll make one :)

That is what I can import back to Tacedit.

If your reformatting is done and email working, please send it to me.

I checked the file and noticed for Italy some airvbases that should not be used for a/c. Peretola is one of them. The runway is way to short, no damn figther can land and take off from that airport with any bomb on it. I can tell you this becouse I'm a pilot for the Italian Air Force, even if I do now fly with GulfstreamIII and Flacon50, but..... Ifyou want I can give you all the info on the assect of Italy from 1980 and on. Just write me what you need about Italy and I'll tell you. I can provide Airforce info and I'll try to have also Army info, even if my source on that part of the armed force is....... how to say that after 4 months he still have to give me the composition of standard italians unit like batalion and other?

Hi there Spieg,

The Italian airbase lists mainly comes from the Balkan lists plus some other airbase in the NorthWest that are not supported by the Balkans.

The Italian info would indeed be of great help.

Send it to me when it's ready:
olivier.beaumont(at)chello.be
Thanks

Hi Red Dog!

I understand that the number of airports must be kept as small as possible.

If someone would like to fly as far nort as in Finland and the simulation is to be made as realistic as possible I can tell you wich Finnish airports would most likely be used in a conflict:
Varkaus, Niinisalo, Halli, Joutsa, Mikkeli Highway, Mikkeli, Tampere-Pirkkala, Lusi, Virttaa, Utti, Helsinki-Vantaa and Mariehamn.

Hi Mek,
The problem is not really keeping the number of airbase as small as possible but not to support the plethora of runways scattered all over Europe and stick only to the main ones and all military base plus eventually known reserve airbase/airstrip.

The problem with Finland is that it's not completely supported. Only the southwest is on the Europe map. As far as airbases are concerned, the only ones in the list are
Tampere and maybe Utti.
If you know of some other in the area, let us know. (check the Europe map from the PMC europe section)

Cheers
