Anyone else having the header problem with the Globe server? (Long/LAT <leftmap_x, rightmap_y or something like that, being the default -180/180, -90/90 instead of your values).

If not, could please someone get the following DEM data for me:

North: 57
South: 47

East: 6
West: 16

Cause since this afternoon all I get are screwed up headers which I can't use.

Same here, the globe seems to be a bit broken.

Yes. The header seems to be much better now (Long 6, Lat 47) but when I load it into DEM2_L2 I see nothing but garbage on the screen. Odd. I'm converting with Perlscripts now and see if TerrainView can read them.

Seems like GLOBE went belly-up cause TerrainView also shows garbage instead of a map!

Anyone knows of another place where we can get the same DEM data or is this the only server that provides such information?

Should we send the server operator an email ? What to do?

It might be good idea to sent email and tell that their service sends null data so people waste money and bandwidth to download that. It definitely is gone belly up, it is not working.

Of course we could wait a few hours/days if they know about it and fix it...

I got the following email from the Globe system administrator:

Thank you for alerting me to this problem. I believe it is now fixed.

Kind regards,

Mark Ohrenschall

Seems like its working again alright.

CCC: Yeah but I was thinking, I might need different tiles for this part of Europe. Farms are usually larger than the small ones in Korea, and I'll have to adjust the road tiles to make then look like actual modern streets instead of muddy trails. Any hints or suggestions on there? I'll have to get myself some SAT pics from Germany/Poland.

Hey all!

Explanation.
The red trpezoid IS NOT 10x10 degree!!! The red trapezoid shows the boundries of Falcon map as they would be on globus.

If you select TILE_SIZE_0 to be 0.25 km, that means TILE SIZE at L2 map will be 4 times bigger, that is exactly 1x1 km. Since Falcon map at L2 level is 1024x1024 tiles big, the RED TRAPEZOID shows you a square region 1024x1024 kilometers big, that will be cut out of DEM map and transformed into F4 flat map.

It`s only for helping you predict the area that will be transformed.

You can also experiment with TILE SIZE. You can set the tile at L0 level to be bigger or smaller. Since map is 1024x1024 tiles this will efect the final map size.

regards

Hi Warlord,

so, you mean "tile size" is Scalable?
then can we use " larger tiles" for monomorphous terrain to save tiling, and smaller ones for complex ones?

It is scalable, but throughout the theatre.
You can select the default scale like in Korea (L0=0.25 km, L1=0.5 km, L2=1km ... ) or you can choose larger tiles to get larger terrain (in a sense 1500x1500 km square instead of default 1024x1024 km square). With this you loose some of the map resolution.

Tile size will be constant over the whole map, you cannot scale just some areas that aren`t that important for you.

After you select differend tile size, you need to tell Falcon tile size has changed.
To do this, change the 4bytes in the *.MAP file at offset 0 - the very first four bytes. These 4 bytes are a float number, that is in fact L0 tile size in feet. Originally 819 feet, that is 250 meters.

Thanx Warlord,

your words seem come from Theater-making College Image

In this case, tile texture could become obscure if scaling for larger coverage, right?
