Post by SACEUR » 2002-05-06 16:50:00

I found while searching the net for a nice place to buy for VSHAPE's Physical HQ and found a real estate company that uses KAMPSAX's superb Aerial Database.

And they are very harsh in their copyright claims! KAMPSAX is a very very laaarge company - be warned but then again - didn't we succeed rather well until now!

Resolution 1:50.000
1cm=500meter

I'm still trying to figure out what the highest resolution is.

After some copy and pasting I rebuilt the Ålborg Airport to one 3200x1800 pixel picture.
That gave me an oportunity to asses the pixel 2 realworld relations ship.
The Pictures have to be rescaledby by 106% so that 1pixel=becomes equal to=1meter :)
If understand this right the current L2 tile
is 32x32 and represents 1000m. When upgrading this to 128x128 pix (L2), 256x256(L1)~500m ,512x512 (L0) ~250 meter (e.g 2pixel=0,98meter) wouldn't that mean the data I found would be best suited for a solution of max 256x256 pixel textures for the L0 file?

I found some german aerial photos: http://www.ausderluft.de/laender.php?land=2

when you modify tiles -do you take the existing ones and paste a new image in or is it more complicated?

all tiles (no matter what resolution) are 1km long.... therefore a H tile at 128x128 has a res of approx 7.7m per pixel... An M tile at 64x64 = (1000m / 64)m per pixel... A H tile at 512x512 = (1000 / 512)m per pixel...

THX for clarification on that issue -
How do I relate this to the Level of Detail-
We work on the L2 level because our data from Globe matches the 1km distance right?

The LOD used depends on your level above ground. The lower you get, the higher the LOD used. For the tiles, this means display of the "Hwhatever.pcx" tile (see my example replacement tile for the *COAST00F tile at http://www.mysunrise.ch/users/twaelti/sp/index.htm)- that's why we work on that. It's the highest-resolution tile, and the M* and L* tiles are generated by resizing the H* tile to 50% (M) and 25% (L).
The terrain grid has a resolution of 1 km (no matter what LOD) - going lower just means switching to a higher-res texture, thus giving more detail.

indeed
however the H M Ltiles may also be all of the same size
