Nice work - It's good to see other entities getting a makeover as well as aircraft.

BTW - Has anyone tried modelling a troop/infantryman in proper 3d rather than the single poly method used at the moment?

I'd rather leave those cardboard infantry in 2d shape. just too small to tell the detail.

Hey ccc, nice models. Good to have some new ground stuff.

Could'nt resist to play with the Mig-21 model, the SP3 release looks somehow odd. Nothing big, just some fixes and a 5th hardpoint. Jetfighter has made some great looking textures, gotta' love that DPRK skin.

Nice fishbeds, nice skins.
Fishbed is always a cool stuff for modelers, say, you ready to add more DOFs?
AFAIK, the upgrades could include: (in order)
- movable rudder, flap/SPS, aileron, airbrake, gear DOFs with better gear sturts.
- nav litee, landing lites and other lites.
- more tiny wing/fin tip static discharger/anthena
- the small back mirror on top of canopy
- solid cool air intake on mid-aft fuselage.

ok ok, i ask too much. however i'd like to remind you (again ):

1. the fuselage lod you took from J-7E need some tweaks. it is orignially based on J-7E 3-views, which is a deriatives from Mig-21F series-- smaller airintake, slightly protruded radar cones, and much slimer spine.
2. Guys at Dephi have questioned what variant it is. you can do minimal tweak to get it shaped right, just focus on air-intake diameter, withdraw nose cone tip, and re-shape dorsal spine-- pliz focus on the height of spine and max. bulging at mide-aft portion. if possible, the junction area between end of spine and vertical fin root need fine touch.

ah,, no, ask too much again. Honestly im waiting your "more DOFed fishbed" so i can do the tweaks myself :o

sure, aside from our viper, vark, phantom, mirage2000, hornet. tomcat, buff, fulcrum series, i'd like to push the progress of fishbed series. so far we have (if being added to DB):
J-7E (dual delta wing PLAAF model)
J-7B (early model, two underwing pylon, file sent)
Mig21MF(further tweak?)

if possible, will try add PF/PFMA/bis/F-F13/J7P/7G..support theater OOB to max detail hehehe. anyway, a well DOFed fishbed sounds like a starting template.

Copy that. The Fishbed is one of the most common combat-aircraft in the world and it really deserves a better model. I'd love to add the mentioned features and fixes. Don't know, if I find the time, still some other projects running and my job is eating me alive. Anyhow, constructive critics is always appreciated, please destroy me. :D

Humm... now I start sweating again... I have just completed the conversion of my 12 Fishbed skins to the new model. If you change the mapping again now, you'll see a pretty angry Jetfighter :D

But CCC is right - from my personal point of view, what we need most desperately is better wheel wells/doors - means textured whell bays etc. Then come more moving parts such as rudder, flaps etc...

Oh, and Spike - are the decals also mapped to the underside of the wing? If not, could that be done?

Thanks

hmm,, i think we could try to use default texture layout, maybe add one or two bmps for asymmetrical camo.

and, one a/c parent better have more than one set of texture.

more, i prefer non-decal system. just paint nationality roundels on bmps. or, each set of skins should got their own decal bmp.

The decals are on the same texture as the rest of the aircraft this time. It just gives them some higher resolution than the rest of the ac...

And don't even THINK of asymetrical camo :D :D :D

I think the texture layout is pretty ok now. Anyhow, I will add all new features to an template map so the completed textures are unaffected.

Yes, the mapping is very good now. It really made skin creation a lot easier (compared to the old mapping).

What are your thoughts on the markings on the under wing?

I agree on the underside-markings, have added them in the latest version.
Btw: The improved texture looks even better, good work. One point: Perhaps you should make the dark area below the spine a littlebit less prominent. Heck, what do I know about texture making, I better shut up now. :D

Ok, excellent. Thanks for changing the model again Spike. :)

Then - can I get a screenshot of your "problem" :) I can only view the textures in 256, and that often changes the impression of lighting/shading. I need to see it in 512 to correct it. And - heck, you know pretty much of skinmaking, judging from your MiG-31 (and others)! That one really is good...

Thanks

Those look really sweet, lot's of Bundeswehr stuff. No doubt, the SP4 Balkans theater will be a blast.

@Jetfighter: Never mind about the texture, have checked the 512' skin in campaign and it really looks excellent. It only looked a littlebit strange in OGLLOD, my fault.

Well, here are some new screens. The new Fishbed texture really look's fabulous, you've got to see it in action.

ROCK AND ROLL!!! My uncle flew (and got shot down in) those in Viet Nam! I tried my hand at changing the An-2 model to an approximation of that back in the early days of LOD editor!

Thanks Quake!!! :D

The droptank was just a quick and dirty test, to check the hardpoint position. I'm sure, Shawn will add the right tank to the loadout.

Several blackbird model files have been inspected, none fits our demand.

oh, Mac Falcon master Rick got one, not sure if he still keep that file.

Here are some screen shots of the F-8 Crusader. Not yet complete.

Things that work (or will work): Rudder, Stabs, Flaps, LEFs, Wing raise, Wing Fold, Landing gear, Hook, Multistage Textured A/B. Airbrake, & Canopy.

CCC, you wanted the gun flash, but I'm not sure if it's even supported on complex models, do you know which DOF/SWITCH it is?

Holy! excellent job!!

can't believe that-- you model the two loop ejection handles!

for gun flash, i think its DOF#2, please check default F-5E lod, it got the feature.
