YAY, someone finally modeled the SA-4's Pat Hand radar. Hard to find pictures of that one. Pantsyr-S1 system looks good. You can tie the 2S6 HOT SHOT radar/missile data to it and it should be good to go.

Pat hand is so cool a vehicle, once i found the pic and line drawings, can't resist to make one for myself -- you can hardly find it in any sim, or plastic kit ..alright it will be fixed..in JA model.

Sure, let me see what surfing Yahoo will get me. Up on FAS, it appears that there are several radars for this system...
http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/russia/airdef/s-200.htm
So, I suppose we need to find what's missing, then hit them all.
Found this already:
http://www.aeronautics.ru/radru.htm
I remembered something - here's a BIG problem with radars in Falcon4... the way radars are modelled, there is only ONE object in the Unit that is the Radar vehicle. So, we can't model the different Tracking/GCI/Search radars like we need to. BIG problem... what to do about it?

Re: New 3d toys? XXII
I don't know what would be the best way, but even to just have the vehicles in the batallion is a good thing. What would be ideal is if many or all of the generic "radars" in the theater(s) could be replaced with appropriate EW/GCI radars (ie, Spoon Rest, Tall King, Side Net, Long Track, Thin Skin, etc--simulating at the regiment level). So what you'd have is EW/GCI at each of these EWR sites sharing info with the batallions, or something to this affect.

Btw CCC
Are these models going to be available to F4UT?
I've heard a lot of talk about modelers not wanting to share their models with F4UT, in fear of F4UT "selling" to G2i. I can tell you that is not the case, nor has it ever been. I have no idea what lead FreeFalcon to those conclusions. There will be no selling of anything, nor letting them use this stuff.
The modelers are encouraged to copyright their work, thus making it illegal for G2i. And besides, if G2i wanted our models (which they dont--more on that in a sec) they would just take them from FreeFalcon or whatever we released, it's not hard. A modeler (Mike Rivers) emailed G2i about not using his models and they said "that's ok, we don't need them, we have our own". So no worries there.
I hope that, if you're not, you will make these available to F4UT so we can have more accurate SAMs. I, personally, am tired of all of the splits in the community. If F4 is to survive, we need to work together. Thanks.

Re: New 3d toys? XXII
Um, I certainly hope you're yanking my chain... is THAT why FreeFalcon is its own group? I thought that it was just a bunch of the art guys making a big graphics addon... please say it isn't so? I certainly HOPE that FreeFalcon isn't in the business of making a new data patch - remember all the "RPG/eFalcon" patch compatibility headaches?quote:Originally posted by mirv:

Would anyone really believe that they would even NEED to lift models from other sources? Seems totally illogical, if they are making a new 3D engine (and why would they not???) that they would need 5-year old 3D models. Just doesn't make sense.quote:A modeler (Mike Rivers) emailed G2i about not using his models and they said "that's ok, we don't need them, we have our own"
Well said! This is totally destructive for the future. Let us not forget the *sillines* of the RPG vs. eTeam days. I am so glad that F4UT has survived so long as it has. I hope we can all get along... please?quote:If F4 is to survive, we need to work together

Sorry Snake,
Didn't mean to come across as a soap-opera! I have this really bad feeling in the pit of my stomach, like from the old days - I've been out of the loop for so long I'm really not sure what's going on these days, so I'm just fishing for info really. Sorry for the spam.

Noted. Sorry Snake. I hate all the politics too. It gets old. I just hope that we all can enjoy these new models, and not one particular group, that's all.

CCC/Mirv
This guy was hit by a Roland on a MAN truck, like modeled.
From Defenselink:
Thunderbolt Over Baghdad, 'Pilot-Dude' Down in the Countryside
By Jim Garamone
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, July 16, 2003 – Air Force Maj. Jim Ewald had just finished a close-air support mission over Baghdad when his A-10 Thunderbolt II was hit by an Iraqi surface-to-air missile April 8. It physically moved the plane "like the hand of God," Ewald said during a Pentagon interview July 16.
Ewald is a pilot with the 110th Fighter Wing out of Battle Creek, Mich.
The surface-to-air missile came up from the southwest, and Ewald said he never saw it. But he had no doubt a missile had hit him. "I could see a reddish glow on my cockpit instruments from the fire behind me," he said. His second thought was that he had not been wounded.
It was then that the airplane departed from controlled flight. "That's just the way we say I was trying to fly the airplane one way, but the airplane was off doing its own thing," the Michigan Air Guardsman said.
Ewald was soon able to regain control. "I was very fortunate to be flying this mission in an A-10, because had I not, I would have bailed out right there," he said. "My next thought was 'I don't want to bail out right over Baghdad or I'm going to be in it deep.'"
He and his wingman headed out of Baghdad and sought American lines. "It was physically hard (to fly the plane), Ewald said. "I was manipulating everything with all the muscles in my body. I had flight control problems, I had engine problems, I had fuel-flow problems, I had hydraulic problems … not to mention that I had an airplane that was disintegrating. I looked back once and I could see little parts falling off the engine and I thought, 'I really don't know what that is, but I think I need it.'"
As he continued south, he lost one of the engines completely and he ejected. "The ejection seat was packed by one of my new best friends out of Boise, Idaho, and it worked perfectly," Ewald said.
After he hit the ground, he mistook the 30 mm rounds cooking off in the airplane for incoming Iraqi fire. He ran to hide in a dried canal behind some reeds. He heard engine noise, and hoped that the vehicle was American. "I knew the 3rd Infantry Division had been in the area, but I didn't know if it was still there," Ewald said.
There was Fedayeen Saddam paramilitary still running around, he said, and he couldn't see very well. "I heard one yell in English, but I thought maybe this guy went to language school," Ewald said. "Then I heard another voice yell in English, 'Hey, pilot dude. Come out. We're Americans.'"
There was no mistaking the accent, he said. "He sounded like your typical 19-year-old American," the pilot-dude said. "I thought that's something you don't learn in language school."
The soldiers were from the Army's 54th Engineer Battalion, and they had seen Ewald eject. They arrived some 10 to 15 minutes after he hit the ground, he said.
Ewald went back to the 110th and was back into the cockpit in 48 hours.

So it seems that the A-10 can take one Roland. Btw, the Roland info was taken from somwhere else, Jane's or AFM.

Really don't know why you can't view the pic, try this: http://daws.ngi.it/F104_2.jpg
But it's nothing special, than a simple shape of an F-104. Now its time to go trought details, and the work become harder :p

CCC !
Do you have any special forces vehicles from OIF in your collection ?
Unimogs , Land Rovers, LR Perenties, Pinzgauers, Armed Hummers... etc
All armed with 30 cal and 50 cal machine guns or 40mm grenade launcher ? Some might have TOW or MILAN, too.
It seems that the special forces contributed quite a lot in western Iraq.

Thanx Pumpyhead for sharing me the pylon lods. the simple model also got a sliding canopy- unlike the complex DOFs on Pumpy's farmer, it uses one single DOF which pivoted 40ft above the canopy, 3.5degree rotation to open it backward, 2 ft. works for me. A/c like SU7, SU15, mig15/17, A6 and harrier may use this simple straight method.

Hehe You could say 21 - 28 days to keep it interesting :p
Are you going to release them as independent F4Patch compatible add-ons? That's how I like to see models released if possible.. independent of Falcon version etc. But I guess it doesn't work that way with CT numbers etc?

However you can always extract files out of the database, once the installer is released.

Simply awesome. I see, you have used my improved Flanker model for the upgrade. Pivoting slots are some of the harder things to model IMO, keep it up.
