I'm starting to remember how it was to fly that old Strike Eagle with pilot/wizzo multiplayer. I know that's not exactly SP4 stuff, but I sure would like to see it in some future F4 developement project.

And let's hope the next salvo also includes conformal tanks... and high spine.

ya, Strike Eagle, and don't forget Fleet Defender.

Im quite sure our coders could do two-seat switching or Mutiplay thing. Look at the files and model structure, when you switching between viper 2d and 3d pits, sim engine is swapping two set of cockpit files..that means a two seater is nothing but switching between four sets of cockpit files( 2d x2, 3d x2).
If only coding window could be opened again.

Im not good at modeling, but i want to add CFT's myself, i have good reference, and afaik, there was a model made, but it hasnt been converted by LE yet. Also not to be picky Robert, but the PW engine overlaps left over right, not right over left, thats the GE engine that does so, just picking it out. Also, if you would, check out my CCIP Viper on LE for me will ya, and see if its alright, its just a modification of yours of course.

That's funny! When I first modeled the new nozzle, I pointed out to the folks at F4LE that very same point.

I ended up leaving it the way it is so that folks can skin the nozzle to emulate whatever engine they want without having dozens of models. It's set up so that the ROKAF and USAF can have different engines (as long as you overlook the overlapping).

Did you see what i had done with the AM Viper, adding the C tail? its the CCIP Vipers that are now in service, if you will, check the shading in the tail area along the bottom.

Pumpy, i checked FW every few hours, hardly miss your nice shots.. great job, modeling and skining. You truely set the viper(s) as centerpiece of Falcon series!

ah, i really feel we need various viper pits to drive these variants..i missed the old days in Holobyte Spectrum Falcon.

Looking forward to the rest ones!

I think you're right. I've even seen F-16A's with the parachute container housing avionics.

I think Death was saying I have the wrong squadron badge on the tail.

I haven't checked it yet. Is it the same as an F-16C with the bird-slicers in front of the canopy?

Hi Ender,

I finally got a chance to take a look at your mod.

While the way you shaded the bottom of the tail may appeal to some, I personally don't find it appealing. The reason is thus: when the surfaces meet at right angles (such as the bottom and side or the side and rear) you get a razor sharp edge. That sharp edge looks out of place to me.

The way I shaded it has its own problems. It gives a pleasing (to me, at least) "rounded" edge but as a result, it sometimes introduces odd shadings. I prefer dealing with the odd shading over dealing with the harsh edge.

The true fault lies with my modeling. I should have chamfered the edges (and for that matter, I should have accurately modeled that part of the tail).

I noticed some other shading problems with your version as well. Put some gray paint on the surfaces and you'll see some irregularities at the forward edge of the "extension" and also where the side bends in under the tail next to the body.

yeah, LE did the shading, when i tried to copy the same that you did, it showed up dark. I dunno why, though. Im thinking that you could do it better, but i was tryin to do some of the work for ya, so you have less to do, ill look into the shading bit more, also which angle did you use? I talked to Fred, and he said the higher the number, the more rounded it looked, so i set it to 180 in Autoshader Calc.

Firstly they look great.

Secondly any chance of getting a 3d gun port?

Hi Wavey,

The problem I've encountered with adding "bulges" like the gun port or the doo-hickies on the side of the radome is that, when shaded, they look as though they're "applied" on the model and not actually part of it.

Additionally, one usually doesn't get close enough to really benefit from having the bulges represented in detail.

Because of the above, I decided to allow the skinners be responsible for representing these details.

The skins on the pics above were done by me, and believe me, I'm no artist. I've seen some of the work done by the "big boys" and the gun is better represented.

I may revisit this issue at a later time.

The "MARDAR" is called a "Marder", though.
If it's supposed to be the Bundeswehr APC, that is. The colours make it look like it is.

Good work!

alright, aside from frustrating G2i annoucement, a Kuz will hopefully be ready for your landing.

say, any chance to finish MFI and Berkut? IIRC Berkut is about 80% done right?

The Berkut? Let's say 50% done ;) Have'nt worked on it for a while, still no flightmodel or reliable loadout data available. Oh, and no fictional theater, to use it in, perhaps Iceland?

Will finish them, when I find the time. Anyhow, both models have relative low priority to me.

With that -35... any chance that the canards could be set to turn the right way?

Could you please explain, how they move in RL? I have never seen this, should be possible though.

Re: New 3d toys? XXVIII

Posted: 2003-01-23 04:22:00
by icebrain
It appears from the screenshots that they are moving the same way as the stabilators; ie., when the pilot commands to pull up, the leading edge goes down. For a canard surface it should be the other way. If the left stabilator tilts leading edge down, the left canard should go leading edge up. Also, I don't think they move in response to roll, only pitch input.
