Falcon files for Falconphiles

Post by T_Rex » 2003-04-25 20:57:00

Greetings fellow Falconeers, I have good news. Introducing FreeFalcon! A whole bunch of addons for SP3 with a one-touch installer!

*NOTE*
THIS IS NOT SP4.

There.

Wait, let me say this again:

THIS IS NOT SP4.

Any questions?

Ok, since this is not SP4, you are probably wondering what this is.

This, is FreeFalcon.

FreeFalcon is a group of 3d modellers, skinmakers, and ne'er-do-wells who hope to maintain the community culture by providing high-quality modifications to the community for free. Some names in FF are very well known in the community, others not-so-much. But it doesn't really matter who is who, what we have done is gathered and created a whole slew of 3d models and skins and put them in one package. Some included stuff: a group of A-1s, a herd of A-4s, A-7E, AMX, a gaggle of F-4s, J-8, J-11, beaucoup Mirages, S-3B, O-1, An-12, and more (like several of Pumpy's F-16 variants). :) And when you see the names of the people doing the skins, you'll see why the aircraft look so good.

Have I mentioned that this is not SP4? Its not. :)

Some of these models were/are slated for SP4, and some are entirely new. Some of them were created by other people, but are being released under the FreeFalcon umbrella - after all, community mods are for the community! :) There's a credits list placed in the Falcon4 root directory that tries to credit the people responsible for non-FF work. If we've missed someone, please just let us know so we can fix it. Regardless, we think the FF EULA protects not just FF produced models and skins, but anyone who has models included in FF1. The EULA reflects the notion that community mods should be free for the community. That's a good thing. :)

Now, I've mentioned that FF1 is not SP4 (and its not), and its worth pointing out what else FF1 is not. For one thing, it is not finished. :) Well, the models that are in FF1 are finished, but there are more models and skins that are in the works that could not be included. There will be an FF2. Also, the flight models for the new aircraft should be considered in the transitional stage. They get the job done, but are by no means perfect. So, as you use FF, please report problems back to us so we can be sure to fix them for FF2. Your help and your patience are greatly appreciated.

Another thing that's part of FF1 is a new Tiger Spirit campaign for Korea. Its a campaign set in the early 1980s, with F-8s, A-4Ms, A-7Hs and F-4Js flying strike packages against the east coast of the DPRK from the carriers Constellation and Forrestal. Flying against realistic OPFOR planes from the same era. With the inclusion of such historic aircraft, campaigns like this are more possible than ever with Falcon 4. **ABOUT THE CAMPAIGNS*** When you play the modified campaigns, you first have to go into the campaign, save it, exit it, then go back into it to be able to fly all the aircraft. Some of you may remember this is the way it was back in the "good old days." :)

Long live Falcon 4! :D

Oh - and feel free to mirror this wherever, just post someplace where it is, so people can take advantage of it. Thanks!

I have downloaded it, yet no time to install it till tommorrow.

If I get this straight from what I read.

this patch is basically a big 3D update,
with datafixes and a new campaign?

or does it encompass more?

anyways will see it tommorrow night :)

Regarding Theaters... only thing you mentioned was this save and reload Korean campaign. Can we expect anything else from you now on?

Snake just open save2.cam in tacedit
rebuild squadrons
and save again.

to get the textures right on the F16-a rename their squads to '0'

it seems (not sure) the F16-a does not have all the textures yet in the database.

gosh this patch is great, I can go out bughunting all weekend now, Absolutley love it :) )

ODS is fine with FF1, afaik, and have been told that the others do too. you might enjoy FF1, because there is a lot of Vnam stuff in it, maybe we can get another Vietnam theatre?

well, i did a manual install from SP3's version, which copies the terrdata objects folder over anyway, then i installed the skins. As for loadouts, our wing uses ODS for the Iraqi war, so we use modern day weapons loadouts, to be honest, ill have to test it fully to give you a more complete answer.

Alas, I don't think others in FF have the zeal for theaters that I do. There's no current plans to have any FF theaters - its more models and skins.

I didn't have a chance to test all the theaters, but a clean install of the last public ODS worked for me. Balkans, too, I think. (I'm getting too old for this shit.)

yeah, checking back on ODS, only skins for models that were updated, and kept their original models were affected, ie the F-111's, and F-4's

To reduce this kind of emails: I have not tested ODS or any other theater with this FF1, so dont ask any help from me.
