New 3d toys? XXIV

Post by ccc » 2002-07-18 02:52:00

To shorten download time, i start a new thread.

This time its rather old toy on my machine, F4J/S.
The reason i post here is we need skin artists to help this baby. the texture shown here is pretty rough, for previwe only.

we also got F-4B/C/D/N/K/M lining up, need skins too.

the sooner we got quality nice skins, we can pack them ready for the community. thanx you.

for phantom skins, i received very limited artist support so far.

Guys at jane's USAF board are more interested in skin making i think.

BTW, Reccee do great job in Buccaneer conversion. i think its time to drop my ugly simple model--or used it for lower lod.

Yes, Vietnam Theater thanks you :)

So CCC, you're the aircraft skin expert, how that cool skin should be used now?

1. no, im NOT a/c skin expert. :D
2. you probably want to got new F4J lod/texture in Vnam folder right now...unless we got LODMan? util done, we'd better wait SP4. DB guys will ready F-4B/J/C/D and RF4C, hopefully.
3. the keypoint is, we need info: what varants/Sqadron schemes for USAF/USMC/USN in Vnam theater. we need a list, and reference pic, systemically.

Recce shows us more Buc shots, excellent job, it gets even better! we may need one duplicated ECM pod model, for RAF tends to paint them in different colors!

Great job Mike!

and yes, the tex-mapping on spin/mid-fuselage cause big trouble.
i tweak my f4b for times, distort those markings/digits to compensate the mapping bug. you can hardly got satisfied with current tex-mapping, yet i decide not to tough this part.

btw, be sure send files to Ripper..i hope f4b could have *FOUR* set of skins, and better SIX sets-- for Vnam USN and USMC!

Just found Dave's working on some nice toy:
http://www.f4community.com/forum/showth ... eadid=6814

nice modeling.
Since RPVs are quite small, they wont need too many polys. BTW texturing with 3ds max, save effort in LE.

i've some idea about RPVs, may treat smaller RPVs as chooper, based on Army bases; for larger ones, treat them as a/c Sq, based on regular airbase or airstripe.

have you ever considered the AFTI version with the 2 extra fins?

Good idea, those scout's and pioneers dont use a runway, they are rocket propeled from a ram or something, should I add a rocket pack to the model and would it be possible for the rocket pod to drop off once the RPV is airbourne.

If no one else is doing any RPV I would be happy to do more, predator next maybe?

CCC, canopies aren't DOFed (maybe I'll do them) BTW, this is based on your 111 model.

I'm going to try to do all the F-111 models, I have the F-111A (above), and the EF-111A below. Other models should be easy, just modify the intake, wings (longer) and/or the fuel dump mast. These are all minor edits.

The skins fit on 1 texture, I used 1024x1024 for these pics, but 512x512 still looks pretty damn good (and a LOT better than the original MP model).

The Splits aren't perfect, because of the swing wing.

I'll build them, if someone can get dimensions (have the Great P, and Khafre) & good photos of the fours sides of each pyramid (and labeled n,e,s,w) I'll texture them too.

http://www.greatbuildings.com/buildings ... ramid.html

Details

Khufu or Cheop's Great Pyramid is 756 feet (241 meters) square in plan, and 481 feet (153 meters) high. The angle of inclination of the triangular faces is about 51.5 degrees. The square of its height equals the area of each triangular face, as determined by Herodotus in 450 B. C. The base of the pyramid covers about 13 acres.

The other two pyramids in the famous trio are Khafre, 704 feet (214.5 meters) square, 471 feet (143.5 meters) high, with a face inclination of 53.2 degrees, and Menkaure, 345.5 feet (110 meters) square, 216 feet (68.8 meters) high, with a face inclination of 51.3 degrees (or possibly 330ft wide and 206 ft high (105m x 65.5m)).

For ease of modeling the pyramids, it may be useful to also know the triangular face height for each as measured along the surface instead of vertically. According to trigonometry, these surface face heights are: Khufu, 612 feet (195 meters); Khafre, 588 feet (179 meters); Menkaure, 276.6 feet (88 meters) (or possibly 263.6 feet (84m)).

Those -111 pictures have me all giddy.

Two...three notes for you though.

The EF will need to have it's weapons loads wiped out. It doesn't...grrr...didn't have any of the wiring for any weapons systems save for the Station 3a and 7a launchers (for ACMI pods). We rarely also flew them with Sta 4 or 6, the two in board.
A mild skinning note, the A model which you've modeled, had a plate...I'm struggling to remember the name of it, but it was right in front of the intake to deflect parasite drag from the intake to the engine bay to be used as cooling air. The later models had the intakes moved outboard slightly and had the plates taken off.
http://f-111.net/combat/ranger23.htm ... check out this pic right in front of the intake and compare it with your modeling. You could just call your other one a D, E, or F and just modify your EF skin (if able).

I don't know if you've looked here already, but www.f-111.net has quite a library of pics.

Yeah. I'm a bit of a Vark addict. I worked them for four years at Cannon AFB. DAMN I miss that thing. Dang -16s....
