Red Flag 00-01

Post by Snake122 » 2002-08-19 05:09:00

Hey guys,
Glad to see Com_GP has released a Beta of Nevada. Unfortunately I haven't been able to download it yet due to my Falcon computer being broken with a bad bios flash. But as soon as I get it working again I do intend to create a Red Flag 00-01 for Nevada. I've lost conntact with Com_GP over the last few months but I still want to help.

What sort of stuff did you plan on the Red Flag 00-01?

Is it just big TE or very small campaign?

Very big TE. As you know Nevada isn't very campaign friendly. Red Flag 00-01 was the first and as far as I know the only Red Flag with GHerman Mig-29s. I've done a lot of research on the range and that specific Red Flag. Some of the details of my TE:
Squardons represented:
Red Air
F-16C 308 FS, 309 FS
F-16C/D 414th CTS
MiG-29 JG 73
Blue Air
F-15C 18th FW's 44th FS from Kadena Japan
F-16C 138th FS ANG from New York
F-16C 122nd FW's 163rd FS ANG from Indiana
F-16C 194th FS ANG from California
F-4F JG 73 Laage, Germany
F-15E 48th FW's 492nd FS from Lakenheath England
F-16C 428th FS From Cannon AFB
A-10A 354th FS from Davis Monthan AFB
F-16CJ 52nd FW's 22nd FS from Spangdahlem
EA-6B VAQ-128th from NAS Whidbey Island, Washington
EC-130H 355th's 43rd ECS from Davis Monthan AFB
C-17A 437th AW from Charleston AFB (no C-17s in Falcon)
C.Mk1 (C-130) RAF from Wiltshire, England
KC-135 92nd ARW from Fairchild AFB
E-3 552nd ACW's 964th AACS from Tinker AFB

Hopefully as many proper squadron tail arts as possible with all of these squardons.
I hope to take advantage of SP3's aggressor F-16 IDs since the real F-16 aggressors have special pods to change their radar signature.
Realistic placement of ground units to represent actual vehicle hulks on range. (This may already be in the beta, but I'm not sure if ComGP used my object placement this time around)
Red team will be based a Tonopah and the mock-up bases on the range to make up Nellis being a Blue team airport. (Not entirely unrealistic since MiG-29s had to land at Tonopah to refuel in real life)
If I can get in touch with a pilot who was there, I may try to build in a realistic mission schedule. My local ANG squadron was actually there. If not I think I have each unit's speciality somewhere and I'll build around that.

TE ;) The only ground units will be Red team air defense, tank, and mechanized infantry that will represent the vehicle hulks they have on the range. Red Flag actually has a pretty complex simulated air defense including sam radars, smoke rockets for visual cues for sam launches, and cameras to simulate opitcal AAA. There are also many simulated air fields, factories, refineries, and railyards on the range. It's kinda strange that we are using simulated real units for real simulated targets LOL

You have the most of the aircrafts that stayed at Red Flag for training, can you please also implement the Tornados from germany ???

I know you do :D I figured you'd let me use them (of course I was gonna ask when it was time). Hehe, I think there's alittle bit of mine in yours too, or am I just dreaming? ;)Your latest looks great. By eyeballing it (box still broken), I think you fixed the Indiana seal being cutoff. For their recent deployment to Singapore they had a very cool "Let's Roll 9/11" intake art on one of the jets. I'm not sure if the present skins have enough res to do it justice but it's something you could do for high res skins. I'll see if I can send you a pic of it.

Hey Guys,
I have my Falcon computer up and running again and I just finished downloading the Nevada Beta so I can start work on the TE now. I found a nice website with pictures from Nellis on Nov. 5 1999 (next to last day of 00-01). It seems there were a few other squadrons there that are not on my list. Just because they were there doesn't mean they were part of Red Flag. So I'm trying to comfirm these squadrons particpation:
79th TEG, Eglin AFB, Florida, A-10 (probably not a Red Flag player, it's a test squardon)
149th FS of the 192nd FW, Richmond, Virginia (Pete Bonniani's unit, default tail art in Falcon)
VMFT-401, MCAS Yuma, Agsr. F-5s (Sounds like Red Air to me!)
VMFAT-101, Miramar MCAS, California, F/A-18D

If anybody out there can help me comfirm they were part of the Red Flag and not there for another reason please let me know (even if there were doing something else I still might throw them in).

Also I would like some feedback on the TE length. I now plan a full 10 days of TE but I'm not sure if and how to break these up. Should I make a single day TEs and label each Day X, make a big single one, or a combination of smaller multi-day ones?

Dont know, but this sounds great!
(Think Norway (RNoAF) had some F-16s in the Red Flag, but I dont remember if it was 2000/2001...)
