Hi gents,
I was looking at the possibility to redo the kneemaps and since I'm busy with ODS for now, I started playing with my background images
The idea is to get them looking like the ONC (or TPC) charts, just like this one:
If I do this I will update all my kneemaps with the new color code.
The goal behind all this is to draw the FIR, ADIZ, and the restricted and prohibited zones that I use on my approach charts.
We may even consider using those as UI maps
here's the intial color playing: I'm not happy with it yet....
What would be the ideal size? 4096x4096 or 2048x2048

Kneemaps
Wonderful idea - - what about applying to UI maps? Those maps could benefit with something a little more "real"
I wonder if we could coordinate an effort so all the maps/kneemaps follow a unified approach - - maybe some generic PSD with some stuff that could be applied for any map - - just change the background image and move generic symbology around?
Sometimes changing out stuff in UI can be tricky and doesn't always work out simply.

Ranger,
I totally agree - As I work with photoshop with those, it's quite possible
Since all it's required is deleting some group layers
I'd be 150% for that. - I'd love to have the UI maps looking like an official aeronautical chart
We take the kneemap, delete the airbases, airbase names, tacan rings, etc and we get a nice UI map very easy for me
But somebody else will have to do the TGA converting

UI Maps
I can handle the TGA conversion stuff. I will put together a list of the file names I need from various theaters that contain the idx/rsc combinations that require repacking with TGA files. I will need all the idx/rsc file sets categorized by theater and of course the final artwork then I can cycle thru them pretty easily in only a few minutes. The artwork will need to be tested - - I don't have install of stuff - sometimes the pallet gets weird and sometimes the maps don't show up properly. We will have to try it and see how it goes.
RV UI is using a different set of sizes for maps now I think so we probably need to separate out the specific map sizes by exe - - do we want all maps just some maps? Etc.
I suspect that using one master size and then resizing should work just fine.
I will see about putting together something this weekend and posting
