CTDs

Post by Lobo_mau » 2001-10-05 22:52:00

In the early strike missions I did in ODS (Campaign) I got a CTD after firing a CBU and in another ocasion a Maverick.
I went back to Korea Theater, flew some missions and no problems.
Switched again to ODS tried another strike mission. In the way to the target we passed by a enemy ground unit that started firing on
us (AAA and SAMs). I switched to Orbit View to see the shooting and when I returned to the 2D cokcpit I lost the sound. Right after this I crashed to the ground as I was in low-level flying trying to check all the instruments ... In the dialog box to close the mission when I hit END MISSION -poing - CTD.

Iam running eFalcon110/RP5 combo with F4Patch41-RP5.
I know these are known issues but could they be related with the 110/RP5 combo ?
Lots of ppl posting these errors have the 110/RP5 combo.
Is anyone having no problems at all in ODS campaign with standalone eFalcon110 or RP5 ?

Next I will try to switch off 3D Models first and then RP5 Patch to see if its related with the combo...

I will post the results again...

Very informative report, thank you.

Lets begin with saying that I have never tried out eFalcon v1.10 + RP5 combo. It felt pretty scary at the time it came out so I left it alone and right now, well I have no wish to try it as I'm already mentally preparing for the first public F4SuperPAK exe.

I am not saying it is bad or anything like that, never tried it so I dont comment it.

Your operating system and DirectX versions are OK. Your hardware is OK.

Suggestions, well not many if you dont want to get into some trouble of reinstalling software. Someone posted in frugals forums that they had similiar sound loss problem and it was not on the ODS campaign, but on Scoobs modified Korean campaign. So here we go...

Fixes for sound loss -> CTD

- unapply e v e r y t h i n g from F4Patch, just leave default settings + ODS.

or

- reinstall eFalcon 1.10

or

- reinstall 108i2 + RP5

You should start from the unapplying extra "non vital" F4Patches, it is the easiest and fastest way. It might fix things. Next you could try the reinstallation of Falcon, either eF only or 108+RP5 only. I do not suggest eF + RP5 combo as most the soundloss/CTD problems have been with these uses.

You can read the installation instructions from ODS pdf manual, it is located on your falcon dir in name "DesertStormTheater-manual.pdf" or you can download it seperately from our web site.

If you go with these instructions and get it working, I really would like to hear about it so I can advise other people having the same problem.

Thanks and good luck.

Hi
This is my first post here so i hope it helps a bit.

Myself a 2 guys from our squad were flying a interdiction mission last night and i had the exact same problem but it was in 108i2/Rp5 and in the korean theatre. Everything was going good then i lost sound i continued flying and the first time when i hit esc i CTD the next time it was the same sound went i continued flying this time i didnt hit esc but got a CTD when dropping CBU`s i also got no crashlog both times. When i was talking with the guys one of them says that he has had the same problem too but its seems its rare. The was a topic in delphi about it cant remember where though.i could send you the Te if you like and test it.

Thanks Snakeman ! and PMcG - useful info!

Im suspecting a problem with 3D models.
There's a lot of posts pointing to problems with them - CTDs, stuttering, loss of FPS and perhaps sound losses ...And we have the clue of the CTDs when dropping or firing weapons...

Snakeman, as u suggested I tried to uninstall all the patches and leave only ODS. No way...
When I uninstall the 3D models from the 110/RP5+F4P_41_RP5 the installation goes "kaputt". It happened to me a few times and I know now that is a 110/RP5 combo problem. When I reach the 3rd slice on Gilman's pie - CTD...

So I went to a new 108i2+RP5 installation (patched with same patches as before but w/o 3d models and eFalcon patches) to see what happens...( I feel more comfortable with RP5 as Iam more used to it than to eFalcon - thence I know more about its stability on my system).
In a brief testing I was able to drop LGBs w/o a CTD which is a good start.
Ill continue to try this installation with ODS and see what happens .
If I continue to have CTDs w/o 3D models I will go to the "no patches" option.
I will keep posting the results...

well, i use eF1.1/RP5, ODS bugs happen like:

1. prickel to drop bomb, CTD
2. hit ESC to leave 3d world, CTD
3. sound disappear, then CTD

hope we can fix CTD in next beta, which could be F4SP compatible.

I'll try tonight the eFalcon 1.10+RP5 COMBO with ODS.

Does anyone have suggestions or install instructions of how this combo thingy is installed correctly?

Install the 110/RP5 installer that will do everything automatically.
I usually apply F4PatchStandard41RP5 expanding the package and tweaking the patches there.
I suggest you try the 110/RP5 installer only without F4Patch_41RP5 and check if it works.
I didn't investigate if the problem could be in the installation of F4patchRP5 over 110/RP5 installer.

I hope this helps...

The answer to that error code is :

It means that the graphics lod description is corrupt in some way. It is trying
to reassemble the 3-d model from disk, and suddenly found a node type it
wasn't expecting.

Hmm

It happens with a specific 3d model ?

With 108i2+RP5 (w/o 3d mdls) I was able to fly 4 missions in campaign - from beginning to end, firing weapons, etc - without a single sound loss/CTD...
I reverted to eFalcon110+F4patch4.1_RP5 (again no 3D mdls)and got a CTD firing a Maverick right in the first mission.

[eFalcon installation was made without the 110+RP5 installer:
1) install Falcon4 -> patch to 1.08us
2) copy eFalcon.exe to Falcon4 dir
3) expand F4Patch4.1_RP5 and apply eFalcon patches (no 3d models)]

Now I'm running this installation in Korea and it seems to have no problems...
