This is pretty decent version of PMC Vietnam Theater release for Falcon 4 Allied Force and RedViper (should work in OpenFalcon too but I have not tested). This version comes with full exe installer and there should be no problems installing it (unless you are AF only user when the installer fails). Please do not submit any news/forums posts about this theater to anywhere else.

- fixed campaign strings.

Install

Delete any and all old Vietnam theater installs. Read the readme and manual in the release rar but remember that manual is quite outdated by now. Run the PMC_Vietnam_Theater_v0.9.exe file and choose either RV/OF or AF install depending on your Falcon version. Remember that the installation takes a long time to complete and is extremely heavy on the system, be prepared not to do anything on the background and to reboot your computer after the install is complete. If you're AF only user, the installer will NOT work for you.

We are looking for bug reports and feedback, if you are interested of helping to edit this theater, just let us know, we will welcome any and all help being it research, bug testing or actual editing. Report all bugs into the Vietnam v0.9 bug reports topic.

We will answer all your questions and then some. If you do not have account in PMC Tactical, you need to email me so I can create one for you (new user registrations disallowed because of too many spammers). 	Falcon 4 - PMC Vietnam Theater

v0.9 released June 12th, 2007.

This version has same 128 resolution terrain tiles as previous version, they arent looking good but will have to do for now (its difficult to find texture artists nowadays). The campaigns have been tweaked to work with present day F4 codes, two campaigns added for the fictional present day theater. Database for the historical theater have been edited for all F4 versions to remove the weapons not present in that era. User Interface has been made for all Falcon versions including instant action and campaign squadron selection maps, the PAK map screen is still missing proper sizes. Also tons of other small fixes and tweaks have been done since last release.

Please note that if you play the historical campaign in AF, then you only can choose one aircraft; AWACS, as AF by default does not support flying other aircrafts. You are on your own to try to fly the historical campaign, we suggest you fly the fictional one with F-16's.

Please do NOT submit news/forum posts about this theater to anywhere else, you are free to discuss this in PMC Tactical forums or with persons whom you know are developer types who understands what it takes to build a theater. This release it not meant for the public!

There is the old PDF manual included in the download package, its pretty much unchanged from the last release, I just changed few addresses and basic info. If anyone want to contribute for the manual, I would be very happy. Let me know in the forum if you want to help document this theater.

	Install

1) Run the PMC_Vietnam_Theater_v0.9.exe and choose RV/OF or AF.

Done!

If you're AF only user, this installer will NOT work for you as it expects to see original Falcon 4 registry entries. Feel free to check our forums for fix.

Please take a notice that the LxNormalFix utility is very heavy on your computer, it will cause approx 780mb memory usage so if you're short on memory get prepared for very heavy swapping by win. Its most likely you cant do anything else while the installer run and then you have to reboot your computer. Also if you install to RV or OF there is additional SeasonSwitcher which takes long time to run also.

Flawless install, esp liked the seperate obj files so I could edit the a/c w/ older weapons w/o messing w/ other theaters.

Mission generation needs a little help, not so many sorties...

No CTD's, to date.

I think the planes need new skins for VN theater. By the way, anyone know how do skins work in RV. I try to replace CH-47 1110.DDS in
C:\MicroProse\Falcon4\terrdata\ObjectsVietnam\KoreaObj. Why it doesn't work.

It should work... why not? are you sure this objects folder is pointed to by the Vietnam's .tdf file? this might be the trouble...

How I do that ? How I know it point to VN's.tdf? which program I can open .tdf file? I try to put 1110.dds file in some Obj folder but it doesn't work.

Use Microsoft Notepad to open the tdf file. The tdf file is just a simple text file.

The directory paths to the different theater things such as objects database, art, etc., are defined in the tdf file. This tells the Falcon.exe where to look to find those files for the theater.

Blackbird, how did you get the F-5A to work, every theatre I add a sqdn to never shows available in the campaign?

And where did you get that awesome Tweet?

I got the A-37 from Alex. I can make the A-37 works in FF3 only. I don't know how it works in RV. If you are interesting please let me know. By the way, Does anyone know DDS number for F-5A?

The tiles will only improve if someone takes it upon themselves to make new ones. It seems that 99.999 % of the people in the flight sim community are way more than willing to fly the new theaters and other modifications but only 0.001% are willing to devout the time and energy to learn how to make the theaters and do the modifications. And until that changes, things will not get better with the theaters. There are too few people actually doing the "heavy lifting" of making the theaters and modifications.

In time I'll try to rework some 512 tiles, but everyone has seen my limited skills. If someone could do even a couple of example terrain types like Khronik before, it would help greatly.

Thank you CCC. If I do well on this skin, I will work more on difference skins for VN theater. The bad thing is this is the first time I really work with Photoshop. I didn't have any class to use this or similar program :oops: . If anyone has comments or suggestions please let me know.

ah ha.. i checked F105G last night, do some fancy flying.. the ac needs a new hi-poly to replace with.. but it looks pretty nice at some distance. so does intruder.

to have more fun, you can set up a TE, let a KC135 refuel several flights of thuds. you may fly nearby to watch the whole process.. very cool..like historical vids or photos.

that mig17 - you should give it a NVAF skin.

Thanks CCC I will do that. For the skin of NVAF, I couldn't find any clear pictures for reference. I try to search on internet but I nothing come up.
If any one can find them, please let me know.

What would you need to have added?

The historical campaign has obviously only the historical squadrons set, maybe were missing some plane types which are not (active or otherwise) in the database or so, but dunno what to add.

Can you add A-1, F-5, C-123, C-130, AH-1, UH-1... in squadron. I saw some airbase in the campaign has more than 5 squadrons but all of them are F-4. I looked the old pictures they have more than one type of the airplanes in the airbase. Thank you Snake Man and CCC for fast response!

I have updated the Vietnam OOB topic first post, check it out.
I looked the old pictures they have more than one type of the airplanes in the airbase.
Can you fill me in what parts of the OOB is missing realistic data?

hi SM,

could you fix " ground troops not moving " bug first?

i ran the historical campaign for up to 6-7 days and those ground units just moving to and fro at very short distance.. i wonder it its a obj linkage bug or lack of taget to capture.

the mod needs ground units moving and catpuring lands to make air war interesting.

Well all my campaigns are created equally, the links are the most important and they are in Vietnam objectives. Of course its different matter do they work or whatever.
