Vietnam theatre UI background music

Post by snowball » 2002-10-18 08:03:00

hi guys
just wondering if different theatres are able to establish different UI music. If so, i would like to suggest one for the Vietnam Theatre.
Its called Khe Sanh by Cold Chisel and has a unique Vietnam/Southeast Asia feeling about it (dunno why but it does). Like the name suggests, it is about the firebase at Khe Sanh and what how the Vietnam Vet experienced life after the war.
The lyrics is great and the tune is um...mesmerising...it was released back in 1978 so it will make the Theatre have more of a Vietnam Mood to it.
Check it out, you can download it at imesh or kazaa

For a first idea, you can get it

Personnaly, I prefer the Stones' Paint it Black

im quite sure "paint it black" being part of BGM in Jane's Fighter Anthology/USNF97 series. it sounds right, yet better play with some *serious* instrument, more atmosphere.

I'd suggest Jimi Hendrix.
Something like Voodoo Child would be great.

Maybe "The Doors" too.

So out of those that like paint it black how many of you spent Saturday night after getting home from the pub watching "Tour of Duty". Beleve it or not Rick Wakeman did an instrumental version of it.

How about "The End" by The Doors, or "Riders on the storm" or "Ride of the valkrie" ?spelling?

Regards
Dave

PS I'm going to have Paint it black in my head all day now, thanks

there were two Nam: tour of duties weren't there?
i remember one that absolutely kicked butt...it had a platoon with a helicopter in the backgroud on its video,
and another that absolutely sucked, it was about a group who took a hill three times or something but had the abandon it the next day...the one with the nurse and the G.I. that one was all too dramatic and was boring to the core...

Can't really remember to be honest, I can remember some nurse and a helicopter but I thought they were the same thing, maybe just a different series.

Personal opinion is that khe sanh sucks. I was there in 66-67 and then again from Jun 68 thru Nov 71 and heard a lot of different music come and go. For a couple of examples of long standing faviorites of the troops in country listen to:
Sky Pilot
TACAN Music

And the #1,longest lasting, played every night in every club in VN

We Got To Get Out of This Place - The animals

Music came and went over the years, but these three stuck. The crap that was made after the war was just that crap. Hollywood has their view of the war, but it is not the view of those who were there.

Since this Project is concerned with the Air War, see:

Singer, Songwriter, Fighter Pilot

Dick Jonas, Chip Dockery, etc are the singers we liked best

"tour of duty" was a series????

there was this song in "Dear America, Letters home from Vietnam" and i can't remeber the lyrics, except it goes "sometimes" over a long time, and at the same time, the scenes are of soldiers with those stares...

just thought i'd mention it
