New tiles for vietnam

Post by Com_gp » 2001-02-17 19:22:00

Ok, send the screenshoot again, and if anyone knows where to find good photos of the vietnam terrain, please, post them.
If this are gonna be vietnam tiles or not is not sure, but this could be the begining.

Im a little stupid, i reworked all the tiles and when i finished them i noticed that they were to dark because the mision i was flying was at 8:00 AM, this other screenshoot has been taken in instant action at 12:00.
The tiles are 26 by now, 1 water tile, 1 farm tile, 24 coast tiles, have to do millions of farm tiles, anyways...

Great shore indeed, but what I really think is cool are those black spots, they are just what the desert terrain needs.

How many spots do you got on one tile?

check out this example what I mean:

Is it me or are they a little grainy?
snakeman, since we are so busy with nam, making it better all the time, I didn't want to ask you, but it would be cool in the future to make Top Gun ACM school at NAS Fallon or mirimar. Mirimar closed in 1997.

Merlin made a F-14 cockpit. I'm going to try it once i get some time.Nice skin collection over at F4C.

1.topgun theater sounds great, but we need A4!!
2.ya, Merlin's tomcat pit is great...wierd i got some bluse blocks on my machine while runing it? using f4p3.2 pit mod.
Merlin could be too busy on F4C..or we could have an additional WSO view?(like that in B1 pit)

Can you give me the lat/long coordinates of the 10 by 10 degree area which would be best used to Mirimar (Miramar?) school terrain?

If it dont fit to 10by10, then give 20by20 Image

sorry thats Miramar,
sure i get them to you by lunch time.
Just looking at the map, with 10x10
you could include almost all the best training centers.
1. Nellis USAF north of Las Vegas,Nevada
2. China lake naval weapons center
3. Fallon the new Top Gun school for Navy
which range is just east of Reno,Nevada.
Nevada is an excellent training area, no people, wide open desert.

Hey, im doing the nevada theatre, with nellis airbase, i think that the miramar topgun school is not included in my map, if you want as i havent started to tile seriusly yet (still making the tiles) i can download the map to include miramar and nellis and everything, instead of arizona, that miramar topgun is a great idea, i just was gonna do it on Red flag but now...
Instead of the A4 skyhawk we could use the f5's and the mig 21.

I don't read every thread so i don't
know what other people are doing, but i
just checked and see that com_gp is doing this area. Well, work it out with snakeman.
Anyway
Miramar NAS a few miles east of La Jolla San Diego, the base itself is about 8 miles wide and 4 miles long(South to North). This is an approx 32deg 53' lat and 117deg 05'long. However the new school at Fallon,is more west at 119 deg.

The western edge of USAF's Nellis is at 117. So if you wanted Miramar but didn't want Los Angeles i would go with 117deg 30' as my most western edge.
32 to 42 for lat.
If you think you can do Calf. go for it dude.
That theater could doulbe as a very real dreaded China invasion. That would be Las Vegas at 115
extending to 125 west.

I went to Vietnam last summer. I Took a lot of pictures of either north and south VN: terrains, objects (bunkers, buildings)... Well I'm at work now (I don't work too hard, as you can see), so I can't send pictures from here. I'll do it as soon as possible if it can help.
I think it could be great to create specific tiles for the water of the northern rivers, which is kind of reddish brown (that's why the Red River is called so). I think this is an important way to create a "Vietnam touch".

Sure. I'd be happy to receive some new tiles from that template.

I'd need the default set for "forest" transitions and then rivers. basically the sets of HFORR22* and HFORR20* - if you know what I mean.

Men, im starting to get angry with yahoo geocities (i suppose its their fault), have put the two screens in a webpage, hope it work, im gonna try to find which is the problem because i cant send pics.
about the tiles, they are pretty cool at low altitud flight, very repiting at high altitude.
The web page, at least works for me, hope it works for you also

http://www.geocities.com/com_gp1/index.html

Hey, aeyes the photos are great, although i still havent started to do airports (and i dont know if i will do them), ive found a cool tecnique to make the textures go exactly with the airports, still experimenting with it with Nellis AFB in the nevada theatre, ill post some screenshoots, if it works.

Hey, snakeman, i cant send you the tiles by mail since my email account works from time to time, ive put the zip at this web page

http://www.geocities.com/com_gp1/zip.html

I also have put a couple of shoots of the rivers taken just before compressing the tiles, its supposed to work (i hope so), hey, im gonna put another link in the index page so if this one dont work you can use this other:

http://www.geocities.com/com_gp1/index.html

I havent included the coast tiles because they have diagonal transitions and i suppose you dont want to retile all the vietnam coast.
Anyhow, i hope this work, ComGP

Everything done, supposed to work, hey, snakeman, have not included the fartiles.pal since mine was gonna mess up all of your texture.zip, you need to make the L,M,T tiles, your utilities are excelent for this althoug they dont support night lighting.
