Questions for Vnam experts

1. i've done three rocket pod models -- LAU 61/68/10. i'd like to know if vnam-era a/c carry these pods with front cap fairing/or with both front and rear cap fairing/or never use cap fairing ? and what's the color painted on these pods?

2. Pave spike and pave knfie pods are done. i'd like to know what phantom varinat use what pod, or what timeframe/Sq use these pod. As these pods must be treated as a switch features and attached to phantom model, i got to know how many new phantom model should be tweaked for vnam.

3. i'd like to know if NV mig use AA1? varinats? AA2? all variants? AA3?

I know NV MiG's used the AA-2 infrared version... not sure about any other missiles.

Pave spike and such... the problem with these is that the program won't know they are fitted in the missile well... there will still be a sparrow in that location unless you remove it.

sure enough if you delete it, you'll want it the next day. I just del'd several photos of A-1's with rocket pods under the wings...
I've seen pics of Black pods, with solid red front covers,(no idea if there were rear covers), and white pods on A-4's and F-105's with white front covers. The white covers had a red bullseye in the middle, about 4" in diameter. Sorry, but I can't say which model the pods were...

F-4D's with the pave knife as seen in the Ubon photo below. F-4D's and F-4E's, i believe, used both pods during the latter part of the war.

I don't know the numbers you posted, they are probably the new stuff or Navy designations, simply a #s change. What we (USAF)primarily used were the LAU 3> 19 rockets and the LAU 59> 7 rockets. These were the re-usable pods, there were similar pods unreuseable that were not used. The Nose and Tail Fairings were the same OD as the pods with the Nose fairing having a red painted tip , [fwd 3 or 4 inches]. Fairings were for aerodynamics and used mainly by the fast movers. Sometimes they were used on the A-1s at NKP, kind of a hit and miss deal, probably dependant on the weather, to keep the tubes and squibs dry . Never saw fairings used on 0-2 or 0V-10 FAC a/c.

Saw some Lau 68's hanging on a A-10 Hog this weekend. Look about the same as the Lau 59 except it's a few inches longer and the firing contacts are much heavier duty. For modeling purposes the diferences won't matter.

thanx. i've finished US rocket pods. now move to gunpods...i'll try simulate them as rocket pods, with tracer rockets at much faster travelling speed. hope this concept work.

btw..what airborne weapon we haven't modeled for Vnam theater? BLU-27? i can't find pic or drawings of its rear section.

I still haven't figured out how to post a pic so go to BLU-27for a drawing. BLUU-1 and 27 are both 750 napes, the 27 is finned while the BLU-1 is unfinned..

Trip C: Which ever one is easier. One on the left is early model, on right is the later version.
