Newbie

Post by MAVDON1 » 2001-04-10 16:47:00

Hello Everyone
I am new to this game, and am looking for some advice on my proposed project.
I wish to build a 3d model of the A6 Intruder
, then put a hi-res skin on it, then if I am really that good, I'll have a go at a new cockpit for it too.

for 3d modeling, we dont have a converter to importing 3ds or dxf from other modeling tools. but you can check the thread in general discussion secation, " Mac falconer..." they got wonderful LOD editing tool already.

for pit, go Vietnam thread and discuss with master Aeyes.

CCC,
Thankyou for your guidance, although I have a fair idea of the terminology being used, I am still very much kinda guessing when relating to it.
Still thi is what i need to do to get on top of things so here we go!

alright, read this:

To create skins, you need SkinEditor2 to extract skin files in bmp format.

get the editor from:
www.f4community.com

To create or modify 3d models, check this:

http://home.worldonline.dk/~thomsen/site/index.htm

Ripper's 3d modeling page. will take lots effort to learn and edit model files byte-by-byte.

Or, Dragon's falcon4 page:

http://home.woh.rr.com/rprior/macf4/

http://www.pmctactical.org/f4/ubb/Forum ... 00047.html

though you have to got a Mac first Image

For cockpit-making or editing, check related article on: (by Xis?)
www.frugalsworld.com

For creating Splashscreen, check Olric's article on Sim Cafe.

CCC,
Thanx, you went to the bother of finding that out for me - I have the Skin Editor d/loaded now and will begin "playing" sometime this weekend. You've been a great help, hope my effort makes it, and gives everyone something to say "Wow!" about.
I notice in the Vietnam theatre, there seems to be an A6 3-D model in the works - maybe they'll let me take that and modify it when it is done. Once we have aprogram to mod it with, he, heh!
Do I still require PhotoShop type program for the editing of skins? Even though I have the SkinEditor.....
Will I be able to use LightWave 3-D tov create models for importing? If so do you know where I may be able to get a copy, and the cost?! Thanx, in advance for any help.
Aeyes,
I got that watch, and am sat IN bed typing this up.......only kidding!!

That's the best idea, work on stuff from within the bed, shut down yr monitor and sleep over it, wake up again and hit that button to continue Image

Re editing, the skineditor is merely a tool to implement skins and other stuff like reflections and textures. The actual changing is best done with a goodworking program like Photoshop. To get you started a bit, with skineditor v2 wich you can get from my site if needed, you retrieve a .bmp from your korea/objects.hdr you want to change and open it in photoshop. Now u need to save the used colourpalette, prior to changing it from indexed to RGB colours.
You want to work in RGB because it gives you more possibilities with the drawing tools.
Work on it, and when changing back to indexed colours apply the colourpalette again u saved. Import the .bmp with skineditor again and check in-game.
The above was for the skins etc only

Maydon1:

I have the A-6 cued up to do here shortly. I plan to take the EA-6B model and modify for the A-6. If you are interested, you can attempt to make the new skin when we get to it. I dont think we will change the texture layout but you never know until you get into it.

Great to hear A6 soon available!
so you can remove extra two pilots in EA6B?
if yes, then is it possible to insert one more pilot to create a F16B/D?
