Question about Fartiles

Post by Expo » 2007-05-31 20:40:15

Hi everyone,

I have started theater development recently and when experimenting most things i was able to figure out using the excellent tutorials.
What i am stuck at is the tiling.

I have used Snake Man's conf files and the theater is tiled.

However the Fartiles are looking weird they are purple colored. Why is this?

Another question i have is can i change my L2 as often as i want? because i have read and see cities are usually done first. but let's say i want to change a part of the theater in desert tiles. can i just simply put it "on top" or would i have to start form scratch with the original L2?

No idea why fartiles would be purple.

Yes you can edit L2 as many times as you like, with CATE the whole idea is that you always have the CONF files which create the L2 for you, if you need to change it, just change the conf files and re-run CATE, easy.

By looking at the images its not any CATE work at least. Just follow the tutorial to create all necessary files and rebuild your terrain to see if it helps.

Making progress :)

Allthough the tiles at the airbase are much brighter all of a sudden and the tiles near the horizon look like forrest tiles. However i have tiled the theater with only 2 tiles (except this airbase) 1 Sea and 1 Dessert tile.

So what am i seeing in the distance?

What fartiles.pal file are you using when you build your terrain ? If you are using a texture.zip file that you created yourself and didn't create a new fartiles.pal file then the fartiles palette will be wrong and could be causing this problem **maybe**.

F4 Version

Expo

What version of F4 are you using? I used OF to build the theater I am working on and I am having strange terrain problems as well.

Hey Epic, I indeed use OF too. I checked out your other thread "changing tiles" and see you fixed it by using Lxnormalfix.exe and seasonswitcher. Unfortunatly Lxnormalfix.exe doesn't work for me. I think because of the fact i am building a 256 seg theater not sure though. I do run SPTinstall and Seasonswitcher.

Thnx Snake Man for the confirmation.

Is there a way around lxnormalfix? There are 256seg theaters which i believe don't have this problem. How did they do it?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D:\games\f4\Utilities\sptinstall.exe -auto d:\games\f4\theaters\vietnam\terrdata

D:\games\f4\Utilities\LxNormalFix.exe @Vietnam @d:\games\f4\Theaters\Vietnam\terrdata

D:\games\f4\Utilities\seasonswitcher.exe -0
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Could you perhaps explain what lxnormalfix tries to do?

Yes, dont use it.

I havent seen any, where can I find these 256 theaters?

Fix the Normals, before the AF/RV/OF times we just did calculate normals on Terrainview but apparently its not working anymore. If you dont run lxnormalfix then in the terrain there is this "shadowing" effect.

I have posted topic on the Theater Tools area to call out for C/C++ coders to create new util for this which works properly in 128 and 256 theaters, but no luck so far. If you know any coders, holler them into this direction.

LxNormalsFix does not work with 128 segment theaters? When I ran it after your advice I happened to have a 64 segment version installed. I switched to a 128 segment version and haven't been able to get it to work since. I have tiles changing everywhere and most of the tiles are water tiles, even though in terrainview everything looks good.

There must be some way to get new 128 segment theaters terrain built properly, is there not? Iran looks great!

LxNormalFix DOES work with 128 segment theaters. I think he said 256 segment theater though (above).

Sherlock

Thanks. That's bittter sweet news though. My 64 segment terrain builds fine aside from a fartile issue going from ocean to land. But my 128 segment refuses to work so far. I have redone from tiling on 3 times now. My testing is all in IA btw.
