Noname issue

Post by Mystic_J » 2007-03-04 14:12:41

Some advice I need.

In a theatre I do, many villages and cities appear as Nonames (not all of them). Should I rename them manually (OMG!!!) or is there any way to make them appear by their real names automatically?

Well are they noname's in the Dem2Terrain created TDF file already?

I'm having this same problem in RV, it says many objectives as noname while AF the objectives are named correctly. Its really strange and somewhere in back of my mind I remember what caused it, too bad I didn't post it on the forum as search comes up empty.

Hopefully we can solve this issue on this topic once and for all.

Yeah, I am using TacEdit now to check cities, villages, airbases etc.. and I've noticed that many villages and cities are Nonames and few airports.

Its more than possible said "noname" doesn't have a parent objective!

I think Malc has hit it on the head. If the object has a parent and the object itself does't have a name, then the object will inherit the parents name. However, if the object doesn't have a parent, then it will show up as "Noname" if it doesn't have its own name to begin with.

But why it works on AF but not in RV?

Of course it might be faulty campaign dir stock-default files, perhaps the default.idx/wch and strings is somehow inherited, I have no clue, but something makes RV create those Nowhere's. Umm yeah actually they are Nowhere and not Noname.

Indeed, thats true, however it applies to factories etc... I mean a factory that has a parent say to London, will appear as London factory. What about villages and cities?

I know in mine the parent objects are all named correctly, and yet the bridges/villages and junctions are not. There is something strange cause if you click on them in TACEDIT in the mapview they do display the name, however, in the "NAME" field they read as "NOWEHER" in the TNAME field they read correctly. STRANGE! :(

Yes, that is very odd. I haven't seen that behavior. Is your strings .wch file mess up perhaps? (note: this is a wag....wild a$$ guess... ;) )

Sherlock,

If I understand correctly, the Strings are related to callsign, and campaign briefing notes etc. The Balkans.whc should be all the objects names, and yes they work.

When I edit the name, it will add the strange, but it is strange cause it makes a new entry for the same name already in the file? Strange.

Jody
