terrain prob

Post by kinggeorge » 2003-04-12 10:47:00

I was flying 512 ods in the north (mountains) twice and after quite some flying distance something strange happened both times :(

THe terrain textures turned very low res, then some tiles were missing and then only white came up and no more terrain. I still crashed into ground. When pressing esc i ctd both times.

WTF ? :?

Now i got coast tiles in the middle of the desert after a longer flight.

Checkedthe ram usage - was always between 250- 300MB (512MB gf4 64MB here)

check your textuer.zip for 16bit images
the first problem tou had sound like a 16bit image somwhere, not sure though.
you can easely check for them by unzipping texture.zip and order by size.
if a tile or a group of tiles are reletively bigger then others then they are 16 bit.

Good Luck

No definitly no 16 bit in H tiles and the rest is runtiles made. It also just appears after a certain flying time - dunno if time accelleration makes it worse. Weird

It actually sounds like a hardware failure on your system.. your upper level ram may have problems. If it is always when you enter ther ram usage of 250mbs to 300mbs then you have a back stick. I would suggest you think about testing your ram.

hmm not that i would know of - at least the proggies dont crash - even if i use all memory and other things than falcon - also this is related to just a specific f4 theater. hmm...
And hey i spent the money to grab some quality RAM :D ;)
