Questions about initial map creation
Hi Snake_Man,
Sorry for bothering you.
Follow yoru tutorial, i get few 10x10 dem maps(for test run).
1.Iceland, Cuba, Timor, Kurile islands, UK: 10x10 frame cant cover ..some islands are far larger than i expected! hope 20x20 maps could work someday.
2.Folkland islands: ok, but cant cover AFBs on Argentian land. 20x20 should cover everything.
Anyway, i got three files for each maps:
*.hdr, *.bin, *.fmt
Q1: what they stand for? use all of them for new theater?
Q2: I got terrain feature *.zip file too, it wont dl automatically, do you get yours by manual ftp?
No tool to run script, so stopped my progress. you said you can provide help, how?
My idea is to build a theater with little tiling/obj placing work, so it could be done in days. Then offer it for testing campaign logic/ground unit movement routes/ground unit, sam AI interaction/event triggers, etc.
Falkland map with east and weat island, could be a good testbed for other theaters.
(Though only one airstrip there, we can use carrier as hostile and test workable PAK settings.)

Yes indeed 10 by 10 is "tiny", its kind of large in F4 universe, but in real world perspective its very small.

Well .hdr is for lat/long information, .fmt cannot remember and the .bin is the actual datafile for the map.

If your browser timeouts when the datas are generated, it means that you are trying to download such a large database that the maproom page cannot produce it fast enough. Try to get one "feature" at time. Manual ftp... umm I just got datas from the web page and never tried the manual ftp thing

Dont have linux box? try using Windows perl, download it from www.perl.com I guess. If you simply cannot make it work, give me the map coordinates and I'll create the .L2 and .O2 files for you.

We got a little problem, the script does not handle - (minus) lat/long digits too hot. It gives me an error.
I'll have to see if this could be fixed.

sorry for double post.
Terrain features files: select south america, then pick Falkland island.
its 126k in zip.
now i got *.bin, *.l2, and *.o2.
waiting for terrain feature files.

In TerrainView you dont need .bin file.

That feature packet is missing airport and city datas btw, roads/rivers/coast is there.

I have now updated the features, there are now all the features you can get to Falkland Islands. Enjoy.

I tested falkland files on terrainview 1.44 last night, it ran ok. but i quitted tv without saving my work. then unable to fire it up again. i've mailed Julian for help.
The error dialog box said: runtime error...abnormal program termination"

Hmm you cannot get TerravinView to start up?
Hmm, try unzipping fresh copy of v1.44 to another dir and start it up there. If it dont start up... I'm outta ideas.

If everything fails, try deleting the registry entry for tv (if it has one). It work sometime. WARNING : messing with the registry is dangerous. Be sure to know what you are doing or ask for counsel before doing anything....

Though not solve my problem completely, it works and i've done few segments. thanx u all.
TV saves some stuff in the registry - undex HKCU\Software\Codec\Terrainview
- other than that I don't think it saves any other state.
You could try deleteing all the stuff and see.
