New 'Nam Tracks  for VTE - Any ideas ?

Post by SouthSaturnDelta » 2006-05-14 06:38:11

There's already a fine selection of music in the VTE Mod, but perhaps you know of some that would be a great addition to them.

The ball has started rolling , and plans are underway to add to the playlist in light of a potential Vte Radio Player, and this is an oppertunity for us to find out what everyone wants to hear.

How about the likes of :

Led Zepplin - When The Levee Breaks
or  The Animals - Sky Pilots

Anyone Have some Ideas ?

Anything but "Sky Pilots"! Heard that repeated enough with a certain station and the song doesn't really last that kinda wear. Anything that tells directly about the war via way too audible lyrics is a bit cheesy anyway, but that's just my view ;)

Something that doesn't ever wear out is The Doors, and another 'the' that's on the rise might be The Who and especially their Who's next album. Altho this time the live tracks aren't the better ones. That's all the 'nam music I've listened to lately. Believe that is much, I don't listen to it often. Infact I didn't have any say in the VTE soundtrack, I would've chosen... oh you don't even wanna hear that...

I'm with Fred, no Sky Pilot, it sucks.

Here's an insight. During the war, most of the music you would have heard was the stuff that AFVN and that played. No anti war none of that shit it was bad for morale. Dave Rabbit played some other stuff but he wasn't around long.

When grunts went on R&R they would always bring back tape players and the latest Jimi and Doors stuff. Whatever wasn't being played on the Armed Forces Networks was usually what they wanted to be listening to. Seeing as Jimi Hendrix had actually served with the 101st Airborne, that outfit had a special love for him, as did a lot of others.

Here is an extract from a book called Dispatches by Micheal Herr, a war correspondant who attatched himself to various outfits in Vietnam.

"One day I went out with the ARVN on an operation in the rice paddies above Vinh Long, forty terrified Vietnamese troops and five Americans, all packed into three Hueys that dropped us up to our hips in paddy muck. I had never been in a rice paddy before. We spread out and moved towards the marshy swale that lead to the jungle. We were still twenty feet from the first cover, a low paddy wall, when we took fire from the treeline. It was probably the working half of a crossfire that had somehow gone wrong. It caught one of the ARVN in the head, and he dropped back into the water and disappeared. We made it to the wall with two casualties. There was no way of stopping their fire, no room to send in a flanking party, so gunships were called and we crouched behind the wall and waited. There was a lot of fire coming from the trees but we were alright as long as we kept down. And I was thinking, Oh man, so this is a rice paddy, yes, wow! when I suddenly heard an electric guitar shoot right up in my left ear, and a mean rapterous black voice singing, coaxing, 'Now C'mon baby stop actin' so crazy,' and when I got it all together I turned to see a grinning black corporal hunched over a cassette recorder. 'Might's well,' he said 'We ain't goin' nowhere 'til those gunships come.'

That's the story of the fisrt time I ever heard Jimi Hendrix, but in a war where a lot of people talked about Aretha's 'Satisfaction' the way other people talk about Brahms' fourth, it was more than a story, it was credentials. 'Say, that Jimi Hendrix is my main man,' someone would say. 'He has definatley got his shit together!' Hendrix had once been in the 101st Airborne, and the Airborne in Vietnam was full of wiggly-brilliant spades like him, really mean and really good, guys who always took care of you when things got bad. That music meant a lot to them. I never once heard it played over the Armed Forces Radio Network."

Just some thoughts...

The Byrds - Mr. Tambourine Man
The Turtles - It Ain't Me Babe
Mountain - Mississippi Queen
The Lovin' Spoonful - Summer in the City

I also second a lot of stuff that SouthSaturnDelta already mentioned... "Peace Frogs," "I'd Love to Change the World," "Won't Be Fooled Again," "When the Levee Breaks" and all that... 8-) Good music you've got in there already... i ESPECIALLY love the Procol Harum cut and CCR's Green River. Great character.

I'll bring up some more if anything comes to mind...

Yeah we need some Led Zeppelin definately. More CCR would be good too, and of course Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf. Also make an audio system for US bases like the speakers they had back in the 'Nam. Also add speakers to choppers that don't sound like music commin out of nowhere. I love all the Jimi Hendrix you guys got on there by the way, and Green River by CCR was a good choice. And of course Paint it Black is a classic nam tune. Good work so far, lets make it better!

polished off scripts for doing exactly those things. ;D

Say theres a radio or any object. You go up and can choose a random nam tune.
go for a stroll and the music fades away into nothing as you get further away.
Dont like the track playing - shoot it and it stops.

Nicely.Done one for any vehicle too.same as for the static version, nice touch, but a freaking nightmare to make ! >:(

The base camp random tannoy chatter is something I'll finish off too. Just being hit with hefty workloads lately. If any americans have the time, and can record some voices, give me a shout, and I'll stick em into the basecamp addon.
The makings are there and I can edit for the echoe effect too.
I tried it a while ago, but I sounded shite, as did text to voice robotic shit. >:(

Also heading into ambient random chatter too, so if you have any audio clips, I'd really appreciate the use of em.

Got anything good I might use ? send em here and I'll greatly appreciate it lads

southsaturndelta1@hotmail.co.uk

Then I can finish off this, instead of it all just sitting about like a sack of ......

    Cheers Troop !

SSD

Ih yeah, I done a couple of Fatt arse music addons that'll work for any version mod  of ofp.
They're 'Nam era and good shit. A couple of sound effects in there too.
I think It was about 60 odd tuners split into 2 addons.

Get em here if you want em.They have my radio script as well. ( not currently the new localised from a source ones but I'll get round to it shortly and upload em for you all to use with the addons )

Cant be bothered telling the tracklist but its decent and none are in VTE yet.

That new localised music player, I spoke off above, well I just rescripted it for those damned tunes.
If you want the new scripts , you have to download this new addon 3.All insructions and every possible bit needed is included for you also.

Addon3 has been Revamped and modified back to MONO for use in the scripts which are included.

3 new tunes, and a lot smaller, check out here for the Freakin thing.
Be Advised- now charlie hears your western music, and will shoot your music playin, gum chewin, C-rat eatin' arse.

Go here, dont move the damn cursor , and in 30 secs, that bit to the right of 'Dont like waiting, click here...'  the bit that says'All download slots are currently busy..' they are lieing b*stads !!!
well  that turns into 'Click here to Download' then you can get your weaselly mits on it.
