No definitly no 16 bit in H tiles and the rest is runtiles made. It also just appears after a certain flying time - dunno if time accelleration makes it worse. Weird

Now i got coast tiles in the middle of the desert after a longer flight.

Checkedthe ram usage - was always between 250- 300MB (512MB gf4 64MB here)

I was flying 512 ods in the north (mountains) twice and after quite some flying distance something strange happened both times :( THe terrain textures turned very low res, then some tiles were missing and then only white came up and no more terrain. yes runtiles - but a special version - need to get in irc and ask snakeman ;)

we tried 256 and 128 afaik - works well
Also 128 (M) and 64(L) works ok

hmm something else - you have point here - it looked this way in northern iraq but this is right now in the south - near tigris etc... Maybe switch with arable land (lowest pic) which is north in ODS :o

Nope it's irrigated farming - believe it or not taken out of a sat pic near a pres palace in the middle of the desert :D

Tried to make it more brownish but it looks worse then...

hmm middle east base textures are done basically - thy to the good stuff of digitalglobe.

I have much more sat images than we used making the tex. Most work now is stuff like transitons - so the lame work stuff :(

Check the area of the europe theater - thats imo the one to focus on after the offical ones are near completition (ODS,nam)

Not exactly the also interesting area shown above - but there's east block, there's scandinavia and lots of other countries...

Snakeman is doomed to live forever with misalinged bridge tiles and getting reports of that bug!
And if the whole theater is shining in 512 - we gonna keep them for ods beta historical reasons ;) ;)

THere is no effort invested in fixing old low res tiles in first place. About those tiles they represent dry river beds afaik - problem in f4 is the tile system that will give no diagonal but the fence style rivers and roads. It may not be visible in Korea as there is much Tile diversity per area - ...

Ok first we have practically all generic tiles. Striker is finsihing forest stuff, ami got the arable, Bobba is sending in modified desert textures, snakeman messes with rivers and will try to make the transitions, coasts and rename all to be usable. I tried to do nightlightning for the city tiles.....

Frankly i have currently more than enough color sat images of below 2meter resolution... Thats not the prob - the work of getting good tiles out of them is :)

HEy Merlin! Thx for the offer. Currently all the texture "painters" are busy with finishing ods 512 textures. Europe would be on my wish list as next theater. But before we don't have a finished 512 ODS version that works well i dont recommend to start on another theater except for collecting sat pi...

THe point is imo that there is no discussion about a new gfx engine. It is not in our hands what happens with the SP3 code - it's G2I decisions and no posting here will ever change it. As for speculations there may be plenty of other discussion boards so that Snakman can keep this just for postings ...
