I see people re-doing seatiles again and again...but the issue is always the same: RESPECT THE SCALE
If you do a 256x256 tile... One Pixel = 4 Meters! (Or 512pix = 2 m)
The picture must take care of that, or otherwise you screw:
a) The sense of speed
b) The sense of altitude

It is created by SPTinstall and contains the "Fartiles", the tiles displayed on the far horizon (they are generated by merging/blurring 4 adjacent tiles into one)

I think for the moment 256 res tiles are well enough to update the generic landscape tiles - for me, 512res seems to be overkill in most situations. It only makes sense in places where you spend lots of time close to the ground. It's the same with highres plane skins: a lot of work only for the mome...

I don't care that much about the paving of the roads...rather about their shape :-) http://falcon.lovesignal.org/dev/hiworld.jpg In the meantime, I found out that I forgot to take care of lights (palette 252-255) in the forest tiles...oh well...quite a lot of work to do! A few weeks ago, I prepared an alternate higher-res version of the standard sea-tile (256x256 instead of 128x128). However, I forgot to properly release it :-) So here we go...
