Binarize Setup and Errors

Post by Gnat » 2004-01-07 07:56:58

From the forum I can see this tool is a pain but I want to make sure I've at least set it up ok before I give up.

The bat and exe are in my main "addon" directory for WrpTool, like suggested in the manual. The Binarize directory is also in here to.

I created a command promt shortcut in the same directory and used it to get a DOS prompt.

I type in and execute as below.
-------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:UtilsWrpToolPBO>bin visnorsk
The system cannot find the path specified.
Convert world visnorskVisnorsk.wrp -> OptvisnorskVisnorsk.wrp
visnorskconfig.bin
visnorskconfig.cpp
visnorskVisnorsk.wrp
3 File(s) copied
C:UtilsWrpToolPBO>
-------------------------------------------------

1. Whats with the very first error ?
2. The files go through but dont change size ! Because the error ?
3. I get 3 files in Opt, but the readme suggest I should have a "data" subdirectory and so-such. Again, because of the error ?

BTW, I assume all files like data.pbo have to be de-pbo'ed before Binarize can use them ..... right?
Thx!

What!
So no one uses Binarize on their maps ? :'(
I don't know why cuz it looks like it generally half's the size of the PBO.

OK .... Visnorsk was maybe not a good example to test Binarize on.
I took a simpler island and tried to Binarize it.
Im getting less errors but XP still gave me an error for running the binarize.exe half way through;
I get the;
"Converting world TestATestA.wrp -> OptTestATestA.wrp"
But then ....
binarize.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Anyone else using it under XP ok ?

I tried Colonel Klinks front end, still get the same error :(

Please check the following:

WRPtool manual pg. 85-86

My comments in this thread, and similar ones on the topic.

Let us know if that does not resolve it.

Thanks.

Thanks shinRaiden, although that wasnt the answer(s), gave me the confidence to look much deeper ..... to the point where I downloaded Binarize from another site ..... would you beleive it, now it works!!!! :o
The first DL was from the Official Site too ! :-/
Oh well

NOW,
But one last bunch of questions.
I bin'ed an absolutely simple map, 1 texture, one hill, simple cpp ... and I'm curious ...
In OPTIslandname it made two directories, O and data.
Data has 24 pac and paa files in it, O has one paa file in it (looks like the sole texture I used)

1. Does it normally do this?
2. I dont include these files in my final island ... right?

Thanks again.
Gnat.

*sigh* just when I though I had it licked ....
At the end of binarize working I get a DOS prompt "Overwrite C: blah blah blah OptTestATestA.wrp (Yes/No/All)?"

This is the XCOPY line of the bin.bat causing it, but;
3 - Is it normal?
4 - If so, whats the answer? (Yes/No/All) !!!

my exclude.txt has these listed.
.p3d
.paa
.pac
.bak
.backup

Thanks for you patience!
Gnat.

Yes. Each time you run bin, it wants to copy the source (bin'd wrp) from the source dir to the opt dir. If there is a file in the opt dir, it would ask to overwrite it. I presume though, that sourceworld.wrp is already bin'd, so you could safely say no if you know that will work for your map, so long as you copy the updated source wrp to whereever it needs to go.

OK, thanks.
I'll keep going and see if it ultimately reduces the wrp file size of the island I'm still making.
