in another post it was brought up about adding a light to a lighthouse.... what I was wondering, can you take the deta3dsvetlo.p3d object (light beam) and script it into a lighthouse and rotate it inside the "island.PBO"???

so when someone loads your island the lighthouse lights up and rotates at dark as part of the island?

I have a working lighthouse that i'm currently texturing. The model automatically lights up at dusk and switches off at dawn. Just working the auto start part when placed on an island within wrptool. [s]Will post pics soon[/s].

The light beam can be seen from a good distance, although this does depend on OFP viewdistance settings.

Working on a script function to determine time of year as this has relevance to the time the light turns on or off automatically. Will include features such as manual turn on turn off, and others as I think of them.

I have an island 95% completed, do you have an ETA on when this would be done?   also if you need a beta tester let me know!!!
 

an idea  just have them run a 12 hr cycle  6 PM to 6 AM
also a fog horn would be cool :D

How do you include an "autostart" script in an island? Is the init Eventhandler of placed objects handled or is there a different trick?

I've got the time function sorted. Just working on a time of year so the lights aren't on in daylight hours in the summer months. Yep foghorn sounds like a good idea. Don't know if I'd want it running continuous tho. The light is switchable so that might be an idea for the foghorn too.

At the moment I'm just testing them in the ofp mission editor. For some reason islands dont have an init= function. I guess its because they are not under vehicle class. However that said there is nothing stopping us from having scripts included in the island pbo that would be initiated by the player adding a trigger to athe map that would initialise all custom animated items on the map. Of course this requires the island maker to include the item ID number from the editor.. Now thats an idea for the next Wrptool release.. the inclusion of an object ID number list to make this easier from within WrpTool ;D

Have the fog horn go off 10 min apart when the light is active or if the fog level is set ># ?? I am not a scripter, Just ideas.

Both those Ideas are very good. I'll do a search for a decent foghorn sound and try them out.

FYI,

Just installed ECP. ANd I agree never to be removed from my machine either. However I will still implement the lighthouses on my upcoming Utopia Island by the method I am experimenting with as it allows for more custom operation of the lights.

OK I have it THX :D WOW the setting up your own island is a bit criptic for me. but I will truge away at it.... any pointers on doing it?

+ I get a missing music file when the foghorn is going to blow?

um, no sorry. I only use ECP for all the fantastic ingame effects. The island support I think is only a very recent addition.

regarding the infamous ECP update.............there appears to be a problem with it, and we havent gotten any feedback form the creators. Sometimes, during MPgames , one or more ppl will suddenly catch fire, like a trick does when its hit. The person doesnt know it, takes no damage, but everyone can clearly see this person from far away. Sucks when sniping, lol!!
Also, only the ppl running the ECP update can see it.
i have 2 screenshots of myself on fire, without takjing a hit, just burning......cant seem to get them pasted here
