I load the B-61 on an F-16 every month, and I have to say...I don't know where you got your reference for that thing.

That's the trouble with a lot of weapons, there's very little to reference. The pictures on FAS are look like they're from the 60's.quote:Originally posted by 42jeff:

If you have a digital camera, can you provide some detailed photos? (and other weapons too)

Re: New 3d toys? XIV
No writing on the case at all on the real thing. Just smooth and silver. I believe the case is solid aluminum and as I said, there's no writing on the outside save for three stickers around the center designating the center of balance. The radome is mahogony with a silver tip.
So my recommendations are as follows:
The black nose make kind of a dark reddish brown. If possible, as I said the very tip is silver. Aluminum again I believe.
The rest of the bomb make it as shiny silver as you can.
The model itself looks pretty okay.
Jeff

Re: New 3d toys? XIV
ok, here's an upgraded, autoshaded pod. look much better! thanx Dragon for tech assistance.
I urge those who can do 3d models( with 3ds max) join F4LE yahoogroup, or start building some 3d models. Latest LodEditor 3.41 can do more help on lod conversion.
LE conversion procedure like this:
1. build 3ds model
2. import into basic lod format
3. run Verify model, delete duplicated vertices, and unused verts.
4. run Auto Normal calcuation function
5. run Audo Shading/Auto Shade reducer function
done.
I think ComGP's EF2000 radome could be polished with this procedure!

Re: New 3d toys? XIV
Glad it solved the problem. Just FYI, the autoShader function calls normalCalc before it so you dont need to run normalCalc. In fact, after I coded the autoShader, I never use the normalCalc anymore. I run the autoShader so much that I have it as a Hot Key in my version! (since I can view in rendered3D, it comes in real handy)

...and once the F-104 model's texture mapping is completed, that aircraft will be ready to fly!
Actually Ron Nair (from Viperwear) is making the textures so we should have some really high-quality pics when he gets them completed.

Nice recon pod on the Su-33! I saw the main pic they reference on that page here:
http://www.duffeyk.fsnet.co.uk/weapons.htm
I am unaware of RED side recon missions? Do these even fly for AI? Or does just the player get tasked with recon missions?

Re: New 3d toys? XIV
two more toys.
build and texture with 3ds max, then convert to Lod with LodEditor. very easy, all you 3d modelers should give it a try.

Complex project takes lots effort. you'd better ask more capable guy like Dragon
sure, you can grab some raw 3ds files and convert it for fun with LE.

Re: New 3d toys? XIV
Zaggy and all,
I know all falconeers want new toys, let me you a rough picture:
To add a new 3d toy, you have to:
1. get a good line drawings for modeling, do some basic research.
2. build 3d model, with LodEditer, or Lodcompiler, or some 3d tools like 3ds max or files of convertable 3d format.
3. build up the LOD node tree, set up all switch parts, moving parts, etc (no easy job)
4. make texture, and map it.
5. if its an a/c, you need artist to build 2d/3d pit art.
6. prepare related sound files, sound effect, etc.
7. do some research to build related files like: flight model, loadout, visual/thermal signature, etc.
8. build unit and store.
9. if its an a/c, you may need coders to make avonics.
10. Intergrate all of above, build a new CT record, add it to f4 database, thus complete all internal links of related files.
11. debug.
12. enjoy a new toy in virtual sky.
see? even those titled "master" can hardly do all the job. so it tell why it takes so long to have new toys in your install.

Re: New 3d toys? XIV
The F4SP will contain the Tornado. And the EF2000. And all the new weapons. And all the new objectives.... etc. :^)
At this point I really don't know if the new stuff will be seen before then, as it would be really pointless to make a patch that would be obsolete so soon.
If I had to guess I would say that we won't bother with another patch before then because its too damn hard to get all the edits together in a patch that works.
F4SP's ETA is near the end of December.
