Aggressor F-16

Post by Snake122 » 2001-06-04 19:32:00

Hey Guys,
Glad to be here and helping Com_GP with the Nevada terrain. I need some help with my latest Nevada project. I need to create an Aggressor F-16 that has the NCTR label of "AGSR". This will simulate their radar return pods and make it easier to ID Red Air. I think this will be similar to the RPG is doing to get the new SU-30MKK. I assume that I need a higher version of F4Browse than what I have to do this. Can anybody tell me if that is what I need and where I can get it?
Thanks

Snake-

I've been going through my bookmarks with a fine tooth comb and haven't found what I want to send you. That's the bad news. The good news is that I think I can remember where I saw it. We need to find someone who still has access to the Combatsim forums.

I remember somebody posted there how to "copy" and add a plane to the correct file, partly using a text editor, and partly using F4Browse. More good news, I think I emailed it to my home computer, so I'll try to remember to check tonite. That process is what I was talking about at the Delphi forum post about setting up different models of the same plane within F4. That same process, with LOD Edit, I think, would help you get that done.

I'll try to check and post either tonite or tomorrow.

AFAIK, many talented guys can do this, increasing/duplicating CT records for your new aggressors.

I recommend Jerry "Pookie", he's in charge of Balkan CT records. Highly skillful and experienced in handling the stuff.

Snake122-

I found it! Here's a post at Delphi by Leo "Apollo11" about how to add flight models:
http://www.delphi.com/n/main.asp?webtag ... ind=Search

(its thread 7661.1, if that URL doesn't work.) Read the reply by Julian, too.

Instead of the F-15, I think all you would have to do is append another F-16 with the name F-16A or AG-16, or somesuch.

Here's where my knowledge base gets VERY thin (the Balkan yahoogroup - F4Terrain - has a knowledge base folder - you might check there for some of this stuff). Change whatever team it's on to "Aggressor". You'd also need to copy and append the 3d model (I think), and point the aggressor to the new 3d model so you could skin it differently than the "stock" F-16s.

Seems like this would work to add all sorts of Aggressor a/c - F-5, etc.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Guys!
I requested a membership at F4terrain. I'll look up Pookie when I get in and ask for more help. I forgot about a new 3D model thanks! T Rex, thanks for the link it helps alot! Now I just have to find that version Julian talks about so I can cut out the hex edit step.

Actually, I think its F4Browse2-2. If you goto Falcon40.com then files, then utilities, then falconeditors (I think), you'll find it. Its the one dated 6/5/2000. I think this is the latest one. Image Image

I hope you get everything worked out without hosing your falcon install! Remember - always make backups! Image

PS I'm really hoping it works!

LOL

Me - write a tutorial! Image It would probably start, "Ok, don't do X, Y or Z or it'll screw your whole system up."

Actually, I may take you up on it. I'm more of an "idea man" but I've started figgering out LOD Editor a bit. (I think that's one of the signs of the Apocolypse.)

If I get something working, I'll be sure to have some sort of a "this-is-how-I-did-it-you-might-have-a-better-way" type document.

Actually after I checked my version of F4Browse today I noticed I had 2.2 hehe. I was thinking since I didn't have a NCTR entry that it isn't what I needed. Anybody know how to edit the NCTR labels?

Hey-
It's kinda weird that we're only about 2.5 hours away, but these posts are probably traveling thousands of miles.... Image

Anyway, I don't think the NCTR labels have a separate field. I don't know for sure, but I think it takes that information from either the .dat or the entry in .acd or .vcd. I'm working on adding an "AGF-16". (I noticed in one of the files that there were designations for the "Mig-29", so I figured there were at least 6 characters allowed.) I've run into a problem getting 2-2 to open after I hex the .acd file, though. I've got a couple ideas on how to work around it.

Important note: this is the first time I've seriously messed with F4Browse or hex editing. Image Wish me luck. Image
