How does farmland in the desert look
One terrain type in ODS is irrigated land - i think that's supposed to be the kind of terrain actually useful to the people so to say - with some water = green = farming
No from limited sat pic resource i made these two generic tiles for testing - the more greenish/regular is actually from a desert sat image.
the irregular one does have more nuances but therefore more repetitive...
What do you think about the "concepts" - pls critizise - to me they look ugly too . Anyone got decent pics of irrigated land in the middle east desert?
comparison pic here

Flaming critissmsmsms here... I think when you combine those and dig out few more farmland images, they will look good.
We must realize that the image shown above is just small piece TILED all around the landscape, its normal that it looks bad.
Think of combination of those two + some additional farm material and mix them up good in CATE... and you'll have beautiful irrigated farmland.

Re: How does farmland in the desert look
I suggest that you add some desert sand here and there. If you look at pictures from irrigated land, you'll find that the contrasts are big. The different kinds of crops could also be reflected. Palm trees, vegetables , fruit etc...

Another comment is that a lot of the farming of vegetables and fruit are housed. Look a bit industrial.

Re: How does farmland in the desert look
It came to my ears that the kind of farmland is not common in iraq. The left one of the first concept screen is indeed not from middle east - the latest one is from the surroundings of the iranian arak facility...
Striker thx for images - anyone has high resolution sat or close 90° aerial images?

Kinggeorge, I think it´s some of your work I saw lately, what did you have for a frame rate on the 512 textures ? They´re great and I hope to see them in ODS.
Will be sending my report to Snakeman as soon as all areas have been tested.

Re: How does farmland in the desert look
Frame rate is nearly not affected at all by the graphic thread on my system (1050Mhz, some months ago Tnt2, now Gf4)
Somebody has experience with Afghanistan? (512 theater)
BTW: Upcoming lomac - from screenies seems to use less than a 0.2meter resolution that means 10 times "our" - for F4 pretty advanced - 512 per 1km resolution. So I don't want to hear 512 is too advanced graphics
