- just for reference..this war is mainly an infantry-centered combat.. minimal air op recorded.
- i checked PMC 128 vnam, well.. it's just big enough to cover the historical combat area! :D The wiki map shows several target objectives of china ground forces.. all can be found in this theater, by TacEdit.
- tho there's no siginificant air operation invovled in historical event, a modified ficitional campaign is doable..both sides flying russian ac.
- a futuristic campaign could develop in this area..fighting for the resources in south china sea. Both sides operate flankers, and this time..US could join the game against china invasion.

Vietnamese defence officials flew out to visit the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis near Con Dao island off the Mekong Delta coast on Wednesday, marking a small but meaningful milestone in Vietnam-U.S. relations.
thanx for the info.. it seems US is back to Southeast asia these days  driving the huge carrier deep into Tonkin Gulf, just outside Hi-phong port.. well it should be sufficient to inspire wargamers/campaign designers working on a fictional campaign.

BTW.. news said PLA also strenghtened the air and naval forces in this area, espeically in Hai-nan island. the PMC 128 Vnam terrain does not have terrain features on this island.. so it probably have to be added by hand.

ha.. your screenshot simulating a fictional sino-Vnam war in south china sea ..Vnam do buy more flankers and warships in past (and upcoming) years to counter the growing PLAN south-sea fleet based at Hainan island.

i also notice SEA countries keep investing in sea-control weapons these years...
