New LoadOuts, Datas and 3d models for 'Nam

Post by Snake Man » 2001-02-16 05:57:00

Ok this is where we discuss the loadouts, new datas for missiles like A2A capability and new 3d models like Thud, Mig-17 etc.

I love it Image

First I start by saying CCC, just got that new pylon test and weapon tweak files. Got them installed thru F4Patch nicely, but in the game itself when selected the armament screen, it was blank except the icons. But I think its reboot time and some more testing, however did you crash your f4 when you tried some modiefied loadouts yourself back in internal beta 4 ?

My friend has multigen, we have tried to import CCC's nice F-100 .3ds model to it and save to FLT, yet the model has lots of "see-through" bugs in it. Damn shame, would have been too cool to add that aircraft immediately.

Seems the Multigen v2.2.1 my friend has doesnt have the BSP Plane options at all. Does anybody here have later multigen available that does the 3ds -> flt conversion correctly? Julian promised to fix us the the aircraft model to Falcon format if the get past the see-through bugs conversion.

what? loadout tweak wont work?
it runs well on my machine.
I use efalcon.exe.

would you send those files to beta testers for further evaluation?
BTW, JimG should be quite good at f4browse, he could help this(if mine wont work at last).

if still wont work, I'll post a "step by step" note to adjust hardpoints/loadouts here.

no. that loadout fix simply change five files by replacing them directly, not by f4p. you got to backup those files.

koreaobj.HDR
falcon4.SSD
falcon4.VCD
falcon4.WLD
falcon4.WCD

No idea why you cant play with it. Image

F4Patch replaces those files directly. But like I said, maybe my win needs its daily reboot.

You guys ought to see if F4A or RPG will do a 9-B Sidewinder and a 7-E Sparrow for you...the rest of the weapons are good enough for the era. If they can make a F-4E Nam era Rhino that will shoot the Shrike, then you'll really be looking good. I would be patient with these folks, but really and truly, if they will support you, then Nam era stuff might wind up becoming part of the RPG patch which means everyone is on the same page with the weapons/flight models and the AI response to those tweaks. We really aren't talking about a lot of stuff, plus F4A is the guys who will wind up making the 3D models become reality and they are good at what they do. Jim

agree.
9b is a must-have.
well, i remember 9c/d/e used?
and more variant of aim7 used?
aim4 could be a waste, but why not have a try? lots fun to play this ROCKET Image
and shrike, ya, i've added it to loadout list in my tweak. more than that, i note there are a *aim78, using aim9 shape.

I think we can make nice improvement to the Vietnam era by removing all weapons from the datafiles that was not used in the war. Thats for starters.

I still havent got my f4 setup to run CCC's data modifications and now the darn f4patch crashes, anyways. Were in for a good start.

Brewskie, any idea if you're taking the trip to grab some photos from the Phantom cockpit?
Then we could do some ugly cut-paste basic cockpit for the F-4E Image

I'll let you know when everything is confirmed. Great job, the theater is starting to get better than Korea.

AIM-9E ¡§small tail¡¨ as used by the USAF(mid Vietnam).
AIM-9J/P/N as used by the USAF (late Vietnam to late 1970s and other foreign users.

AIM-9L/M/S as used by the USAF/USN/USMC (1976 to present) and other foreign users.

Silk here. Id like to get up to speed on where you guys are and what current needs you have for aircraft/data support. I downloaded the theater and find it to be a great addition. Some observations:
I think we have enough here to proceed with further builds. I need for you Snake or another member to be a liason for your group for the Vietnam theater. One thing I found myself thriving for was more green in the terrain and hooches instead of buildings in the country areas. I also found that the ground war needs to be spread out and intensified with more groups of plain AK47s and M16 foot troops engaging each other. Also, so far(day 2) it appears that most of the fighting is occuring on the eastern coast(near airstrips) with minimal activity in other regions of the map. Forgive if these items were already discussed. Please let me know if I have the latest build. BTW, I noticed that someone wrote his/her name in one of the tiles near the airstrip that the 2nd squadron of F4Es is based.

As you know one of our members Aeyes is already fast and hard at work on the F4E pit to support your efforts. I will probably add a vietnam sound pak later to accent his work.

Welcome Silk!
found that the ground war needs to be spread out and intensified with more groups of plain AK47s and M16 foot troops engaging each other.
agree. we've posted some links to dedicated Vnam sites, including their composition and unit number. hope those numbers could be "translated" into f4 world ASAP.

BTW, my humble note for editing hardpoints/wpns..if you cant hold till official RPG/F4A mod out.
===============================================
A. modify harpoint/weapons loadout.

1.fire up f4browse
2.select "vehicle" > "aircraft" (left column window)
3.select :f4e or ea6b (right column window, double click on icon)
4.lower part of user interface: most tweaking here."hardpoints/weapons" window and related buttons here.
5.double click on any "hardpoint" item you want to edit. pop up a new dialog box, you may "add" any wpn by browsing the list. the blank "number" means the max amount of that wpn can be loaded onto this hardpoint.
6.be sure to "update" what you change.

B.hardpoits can be edited independently by click "harpoints" on left column

C.adjust "squdron stores" by click it on left column, to supply sufficient ammo you added in A.

1.double click on "figher-f4e", the sq store dialog box shown. click on any wpn bring up a quantity box, modify the number you want thru 1-254.
2.be sure to update it.

D.for EA6B, you got to delete most wpn in "hardpoint/weapon" blank, then add 4 or 5 pylons. click on "add HP", pick your favorite pylon from available list. like this: HP(1.2)x2, HP(3.4)x2, and HP(5)x1.

Well we havent really done any data modifications, CCC did some loadout changes but at least those files didnt work on my falcon installation. So nothing is done, yet.
quote:I need for you Snake or another member to be a liason for your group for the Vietnam theater.
Ok sure thing. I can also handle the Desert Storm which is quite good, one guy - two theaters Image

quote:more groups of plain AK47s and M16 foot troops engaging each other.
My current version of the campaign file has much more troops in it.
quote:most of the fighting is occuring on the eastern coast(near airstrips) with minimal activity in other regions of the map.
What other areas there should be combat?
quote:Please let me know if I have the latest build.
Beta 4 is the latest public and now I've updated the campaign pretty much. I was planning on putting out Beta 4.1 which has all fixes to beta 4 and some more candy for campaign.
quote:BTW, I noticed that someone wrote his/her name in one of the tiles near the airstrip that the 2nd squadron of F4Es is based.
I think this is the Microprose employee thing, at least I didnt write anything in there Image

It's sure nice to have some F4A support.
You know Silkman, software developers have said they cannot find a publisher for a vietnam based sim, because it won't sell. So if "we" F4 pilots/simmers don't make one, nobody's going to do it.

Yup Brewski, F4alliance was started for similar reasons. We can't wait on developers to do things for us anymore.
