Silk,Aeyes
I kept my word and I just came back from visiting the USAF Museum at Wright-Patterson, Dayton. Everyone here who loves aviation, given the opportunity, should really visit this wonderful museum. I was surprised, to say the least, when i entered the exhibit hanger and saw the Stealth Fighter. In fact, they had two of them on display, the
F-22 and the F-117. One might be fortunate enough to see one of these flying at an airshow, but at the museum you can get right up close and touch'em. Also on display were
F-105's(WW G version),Olds' F-4,F-111,F-15,F-16,A-10,B-1,SR-71,X-15,X-planes, various weapons systems and ordance. They had many WW2 and Korea vintage aircraft, too. There isn't any museum that is more comprehensive that this one,and they don't charge admission. I couldn't borrow a digital camera so I used 35mm 800 film.
I did take F-4 cockit pictures but i had to compete with about 4 bus loads of boy scouts. Because it's in a hanger, the light was low and the pit was dark It's really just a play thing for the kids. So we'll see, but hey, i had fun
This is for you guys, all the details you need:
http://www.aerobookcompany.com/pages/wa ... eries.html
and someone here mentioned the walk around series by the signal/pub group.

welcome back brewski!
I am waiting your photos..pliz post the one you took at the eye-level of pilot. i really wonder the FOV when you sit there, looking straight ahead. In Aeyes' 10_12_c view, it seems a bit "looking downward". hope your shots can help this.

Re: Phantom v1.008 available
CCC, you are right and i believe you should consider the views as follows while forgetting the F-16 or other planes views.
From the top going down:
The 10_12 view is the view looking forward normally 90 dgs angle
The 10_12_e view (used to be 10_12_c)is the view slightly looking down, general view at the pit and its instruments
The 10_12_c view is the view looking down at legs etc.
The 10_12_d view is looking forward normally at the WSO's spot.
The 10_12_dt is looking at a 45dgs angle down at the WSO's spot.
In general for the frontpit there is only one way to make visuality better, while keeping HUD info correct (gun aiming recticle) and that is by making a wide view.
I have considered that, but because the pit is too cluttered many things would become unreadable when increasing the distance.
That's what would happen making it wide.

It may be a while. I have to get the film
developed and then scanned. The scanner I'm getting is really good, i needed one. I'm going to run the pit today, so I'll let you know since its fresh in my memory.

Re: Phantom v1.008 available
Okay,
The pilots eye level to the hud on the 1.011 pit looks exactly like the one i was in, it wasn't higher, you got it right IMO. The WSO frontal view also looks dead on. The WSO had a small stick for the right hand, not much else on his right, but on his left were switches ect..

Sjponeill, unapply all cockpits and ADS switcher with F4patch and unzip the files into art/ckptart folder.
Whatever you start up will be the F-4
Later on, when the package becomes more final it will be made F4patch/ADS compliant

CCC, i got 3 rolls of film, which i'll get developed tomorrow. And i'm not optimistic that we will even get good interior pit shots, but i will post regardless. The best shots will be of Brewski in front of a USAF Thunderbird, and the F-22

Re: Phantom v1.008 available
Brewski, sounds great, i am desperately in need of WSO pitpics, especially looking down.
That way i can continue the work for the backpit. V1.013 of the pit will be uploaded tonight, some good improvements on a lot of fields inthere.
Re pics, i don't know how long it will take you before you can scan 'em, but i live in Europe and sending them over would be a bit expensive i think. Anyone in yr neighbourhood with a scanner?
I received some good pics of the top view of the WSO pit from David Burnette, but the bottom part, i still don't have any, at least not really detailed.

Is the cockpit download mirrored somewhere?
Before putting the rectangles around the download text(up to about version 11, I think)I could right click and "save link as."
I'm using Navigator and trying to normally click to download shows a little grey box:"This option not available."
Love the pit!

Re: Phantom v1.008 available
Col.Tomb, i have added a little link for the Netscape navigators.
CCC, the wings are kinda templates for later cammo's, and i have had talk with the Viperwaer guys a little while ago to see if we could connect the 2D wings to a specific Viperwear skin with one click and download.
Will investigate further

Re: Phantom v1.008 available
ok ok.. let me find it...where's the phonebook?
honestly, really nice pit, hope it support Auto cockpit switching ASAP. thru a f4p file?
i just screw up some viper pits while doing manual switching
BTW its seems easier to create an USN phantom pit? what's the difference? since new buttons/switches can be added..any plan to install a switch for hook or dragchute?
i checked Xis' pit editing guide a while ago..wow..no easy thing..probably harder than learning 3d modeling.
Looking forward to camoed wings/fuselage art..seems pit art and skins are hooked together? one click and everything done

Re: Phantom v1.008 available
I hadn't seen those screenshots yet, thx for pointing me to them.
The graphics seem a bit simple and blocky, but on the other hand it looks like dynamic lighting is inthere too.
in general the stuff looks correct, and as a F-4 pit.

Re: Phantom v1.008 available
absolutely no offense.. if 3dwire use 3d model for their pit in right scale... then it proves my guess. look at that the overall panel size is smaller and cut the lowerest instrument in half at level FOV.
you may want to bash me for reminding this topic for times but, it simply prove that when the pilot sitting there, looking straight foward, his FOV wont cover so much field. and i believe a good place 10_12_c view is very important for BVR/AG maneuvering, why? the axis of a/c movement/control of a/c and aiming axis are merged in this view, so it make maneuvering very smooth, easy, and natural.
NO bad intention to ask a revision of this wonderful artwork. simply to clarify my point. thanx you for attention.

Re: Phantom v1.008 available
No offense at all CCC, this is a pit in development and any suggestion or critics are being considered.
Now i know what you are aiming at in terms of views and i have done some testing before to see if it is possible at all.
I have added a top view temporarely back in v1.008 or so wich prooved again why only one change could provide for the type of view you are requesting.
The gun's bullets never leave diagonally, that's why we are limited to the overall connection of tilting to match the gunpipper in the HUD to where the bullets actually show up.
And this combination in such a way that the plane doesn't look like a chopper moving forward and keeping the dogeometry, wich draws the reflections and other stuff like wings and loadout in a correct way.
So it's a combination of factors and like i said before there is only one solution to get it right at the moment and that is with a wide type of view.
I have ruled that out when i built it from scratch due to the too cluttered cockpit interior wich would make almost everything unreadable at a bigger distance therefor becoming smaller.

Re: Phantom v1.008 available
Yes CCC, we looked at the smaller tighter view and unfortunately it does not work . It makes the aircraft look very small on the runway and reduces the symbology of the instruments. It takes away from the overall feeling and beauty of the pit. In the real pit, the front frame of the canopy that you see is large and goes around you. In fact the pit itself is engulfs you. You would never beable to see all instruments in one view(it would take a series of scans[or headchecks] from left to right focusing on set areas). Think of it as driving, when focusing on the road you may only make temporary scans of the instruments and and cannot see all instruments and the entire windshield frame in one view. Likewise, the pit itself is large and you actually have to look around. Your peripheral vision is actually what gives the illusion of seeing the entire pit in one view. In the view of the pit at the site you referenced, it appears that they are taking the route that Janes took with FA/18. That is, using a 3d pit with dynamic lighting. The problem is that you lose a tremendous amount of detail(and FPS) in doing so. However, it does allow for the illusion affect or simulated affect of having very much of the pit available in one view.

Re: Phantom v1.008 available
I have uploaded v1.014U, and i think CCC will like this one
The front views have been adjusted a bit, there is some better perspective, and there is a better view at whats in front of you.
I think this is the maximum i could get out of it in terms of view, it ain't that much but 20 pixels do make a difference.
At least you can see yr flight path marker all the way in when you land now.
Don't forget to get the reflections too, i had to adjust them as well.
Enjoy

Aeyes,
I just have to ask one other person on monday, if he doesn't have a scanner that will do the job, i'm going to purchase one.
BTW, I really like the damage modeling, it makes it seem more real, even a little scary.

About the damage modeling, i like it too, it adds to the immersion, and i wish there are more ways to make the damage random iso the same everyt time.
What does happen is that sometimes only yr wing is damaged or yr canopy, but most of the times it's all there.
The first time it scared the *** out of me too when i was looking forward and suddenly everything was splattered
Some wind to accentuate the holes would be cool
