Phantom cockpit view

Post by Aeyes » 2001-02-20 03:08:00

I have been playing around with a center view of a F4 a bit, just for starters.
It's not up to standard, that will take quite a bit longer, but nice for a change of the USAF pit. Some thingws are working in it, sofar the HUD, RWR, MFD,A LTimeter and clock.

Very nice and it shows alot of initiative, on Aeyes part, to take the lead on this.
It's something i won't forget.
I'm going to try it out tonight.

How exactly do I use this cockpit?I tried it last night but i couldn't get it to show up.I placed it in the art/ckpits folder in both the main F4 folder and the one in the F4Patch.I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but i have no idea what it might be.Thanks for your time.

Wolf, make sure you unapply other cockpits first with F4patch, including the autoswitching device, than it will show up in game providing you have resolution set at 1024

I have added the following view since you can hardly see the environment in the center 12 o'clock view:

Now also working are the (changed) analog compass and digits for ALT
Downloadable at Aeyes's Falcon4 components

Nice work, Aeyes!

Glad to see that there is something to use beside that ol' Janes ripped 'pit.

Yours is *MUCH* better! Image

wonderful!
hey Aeyes, i think your " 12 up" view should be the 12-center view, its about the level of pilot's sight.(or down to cover the artificial horizontal instrument?) The original 12-center be the 12-down, its occupied by too many gauges. what you think?
so we need a 12-up, 45 degree up with marginal canopy frame?

Yeah i see what you mean, but i am not a big fan of for example 5 12 o'clock views like in Skypats wide, although i like his pit in general.
The Phantom pit is one with pretty bad vision, unlike the F-16 and Mirage, but comparible to the Mig-29's views.
That also means u have a lot of cockpit in front of you and therefor i feel the views are ok the way they are.
I have considered to switch the up view a bit higher, but than you would loose the MFD wich is pretty essential, so thats where i had to cut it.
Everything falls nicely into place the way it is and it would also mean redoing all those settings in the datfile all over again...

hi Aeyes,
how's other views? Image
maybe you can use parts of mig29 pit for them?

BTW, those new splash screens are great.
AFAIK, both screens could be colorful, though take more effort to re-organize their palette...

yeah CCC, i know, i did the Mig-29 splashscreens also.
I tried those to make them full colourpics and it was really hard to maintain quality without shifting of colours all the time.
In this case with the latest i was looking for a more "soft" aproach of a loading screen, less shouting so to say.

Re other views, that really depends on available time, as this is a sideproject, but when i find some spare i will see.
Uploaded new sets last night btw, with sharpened up stuff inthere Image

Fyi, i have changed the free webspace i had before at Hyperfart's, one pop up wasn't ideal but 2 was a bit to many so the new place to go for F4 stuff is: http://falcon40.virtualave.net/

For the rest, version 1.003 is available now, 4 views total and mirrors added Image

IM just a ignorant newbie so ill ask silly questions:

is there a way that a a skin isnt just a sking but would fly like another plane and not like the falcon? for example the f4 would fly like an f4 and not like f16. if this is possible anything like that available??

Good question, and the answer is simple, the RP4.1 patch includes new flightmodels of many planes, so if you want to fly the Phantom in this case you have to select the Phantom as the plane to fly. The FM's have been adjusted by Tom "Saint" Lauder and he is pretty good at it and does thorough research.
I am just not certain he has adressed all the planes yet, but i think the F4 was.
You have to enable the flyanyplane patch with "F4patch 3.22" to be able to fly and select those other planes.

I suggest you visit Sabre's site and get the right info from there.
It looks like something in your setup went wrong but it's hard to tell from here.
best is to follow instructions carefully.
You can find Sabre's at: http://sabre8.falcon40.com/
